Colloidal silver, sprayed on a cat scratch, or any kind of injury will kill bacteria.

Thinking of getting a parrot I have read a lot of bird forums and talked to some breeders in my area. No one knows about this, i have no clue why, so dropping a note into the health forum.

For example, many many posts cite cat saliva bacteria.

If a cat had a bird in its' mouth, initially you could probably get it to drop the bird with no bite. If there is a bite, do the same thing : spray colloidal silver everywhere. Colloidal silver is an incredible antibiotic for external or internal use. Is completely mild even for eyes, people, cat, bird eyes. I guess people also use polysporin and styptic on birds' scratches ? But the first thing to do is colloidal. In fact the first bit of bleeding after will drain out the bacteria.

You can buy it but expensive, can make it very very cheap with pure 99% silver wire, and some electrical little things. Can forward links how to make, we make it all the time.

The healthier the cat the less of the ordinary bacterias there are, too.

Sometimes we get a cat scratch for some reason, normally the scratch raises, but if colloidal silver sprayed on it heals almost right away no reaction.

If a bird attacks bites or lands on a cat, same thing, birds' feces carry bacteria that need to be dealt with for the kitty's sake.

We are thinking of getting a parrot and appreciate the forum ! But so surprised no one ever mentions colloidal silver. Don't take my word... google...

Colliadol Silver is very safe to use for our birds.

I have only learned about this product last weekend, my brothers have been using it for years on themselves & my brother that has a property with heaps of animals uses it on his pets.

It's not safe for birds, it's not safe for humans, it's not safe for anything. The "research" for it is dubious, and incomplete.

I guess each to their own. I have never used it but i would say from what i have read it isn't something you would use everyday. All i know is my youngest brother has lost almost all his toes on both feet due to a accident. He feet get ulcer's from rubbing on his shoes he used a product called Sutton Colliadol Silver Spray & it healed the ulcer. No long term use at all. I am sure they only use it topical & don't ingest it at all.

I use Grapefruit Seed Extract for my birds & have found it very good.

I must admit that the "blue skin" comment I made was related to people taking colloidal silver as prophylactic; i.e. every day for "general health." That is a huge mistake. Their cheeks are usually the first area to exhibit symptoms.

I do know that Copper is a good anti-microbial, so it makes sense that Silver, just one position away on the Periodic Table, would also kill germs.

I still wouldn't use it myself haha.

I would be a bit suss taking a product like that. Think i like my olive complexion better than blue. LOL. Some people will try anything especially if they have a terminal illness. But i guess who can blame them.

If your bird gets scratched by a cat please head to a vet for anitbiotics. The antibiotic of choice is Clavamox. If it is a deep scratch and blood is seen, you have a 12 hour window to save your bird. Cat scratches are serious and needs an antibiotic not colloidal silver.

Colloidal is a liquid for ingestion and its value debatable , but silver is in acceptable use as a topical antiseptic and disinfectant in the medical communtity (humans)
