as I mentioned some where else. I broke down out of pure boredom and bought a bird magazine. And one thing cought me off gaurd.
I was reading the "Toxic List" and guess what I saw on there....
PEANUTS
man, I hope Cricket doesnt hear about that, cause she will hunt down that writen and bite them good :D
Anyone have an idea on why they would list that? My mother (who gives the bird anything it begs for, ug!) seems to think its on there because of its high fat content.
What do you guy think.

Maybe because of some of the fungi they can carry if they're low quality? Or maybe some part of the plant is? Or maybe the writer just made a bunch of stuff up and didn't check themselves! You should write to the magazine, correcting them, maybe you'll show up in the corrections section next month!! :p

Wait, I just looked it up and this is what I found:

"Because peanuts are high in polyunsaturated fatty acids, they form toxic transfatty acids when exposed to heat, air, or light as they age."

Pretty much everything else I read had some variation of that...so I guess new peanuts are good, old ones not so much...Some articles also mentioned the aflotoxin that peanuts can grow which causes aper.

As long as you buy peanuts for human consumption and not the ones listed for wild birds they are fine. Yeah its common sense really, we all know that we don't give our birds anything old, or bad........................ don't we  :D

... like MACARONI AND CHEESE ... *ducking to avoid the impending flaming!*

SERIOUSLY THOUGH - I believe that you aren't supposed to feed your parrots peanuts because of FUNGUS (or FUNGI) that can be housed between the actual nut and the shell. But as long as they are fresh you should be OK!

I don't even know how Christy deals with you, with all of your instigating!

And I'm sure that when Iggy comes to live with you, he'll tell you how much he loves mac n cheese and how good it is for him! Part of this bird's complete and balanced diet! :D (I'm not sure where my flesh comes into his balanced diet, but I'm sure that's in there too! )

"Instigation" is my middle name ... and I just had to throw that in there this afternoon cause I thought it would be fun!

Christy loves me (well, so she says, I can't speak for her). But I think that 2 birds are enough for now and I am sure that Iggy can't come live with us ...

Nah, Ham and "mystery bird" will knock him into shape...then his beak will only give gentle kisses and you'll be the very first proud owner EVER of the elusive "Giant Green Conure"! Trust me, it's all win-win ;)

Giant Green Conure eh - not exactly sure I have ever seen that breed in any of my conure books ... I wont take any bird that I don't know anything about ... too bad Iggy isn't a YCA because I know A LOT about those, and I could whip one of those (say, if they were misbehaving) into shape quickly!

Not that I'm Tex (boy would THAT be interesting), but I think he is either going to get another bird soon (i.e. it's not ready to come home yet) or he JUST got another bird...I think it's the former...but he thinks it's amusing to keep it a secret, or maybe he doesn't want to jinx it. I'm sure he'll tell us all about that one too, until then we're in the dark...Anyhow, he can come and be mysterious to you rather than me speculating.
