alright... I dont know how to say this with out making this guy look like a total jerk.

Ok, background story... had this friend who doen't like birds... fine with me. His mother (and family) have some birds. Now he didnt live at home until he was told he had cancer :( I know.. very sad... but it gets worse. For the first time I got to hand out at his house (parents home) Now from what I am told his mom work at some cat vet like place... and is one of those people who sees and animal thats going to die and has to save it... So I am told (didnt get to see the whole house) that his mom has about 100 cats (could be wrong about the number) But the house looks nice and clean, doesnt smell... the cat (from what my friend has told me) are in crates... I dont know how big ect ect.... but from my first sence I though "this family has it together" but then I asked to see the fids... I get to see the one in the kitchen first, an ecle, male.... good shape, huge cage, from what I can see... need to tell my friend though that he shouldn't be on seed and that he should tell his mom that. But I knew they had more, and I knew they kept them in a finished basement... friend live down in the basement too. So he leads me to this little room, the size of an over sized closet... there is one ecle, male and plucked completely, two amazons each in a cage I would put a budgie in :02: and two conures  I think both in the same cage one's head was plucks completely off but the other (mad that they didnt seperate them) and a poor little ringneck with the sweetist personality in a cage that was bigger than the amizons but still to small he is missing one tow from where one of the cats got him and bit it off (I am being told thats why the fids are down in the basment, to keep the cats from getting at them. Now this room, unlike the finish part of the basement has a dirt floor and is very... well, lets just say I wouldn't keep an animal in there.
Now I know this isn't my friend responisbility, and I am not making excuses for him but I couldn't bring my self to hang out with him again... and deff not at his house.
Well this has been on my mind, and I would love to save all the little guys, but it isn't like I have a place to put them... so my question, who can I call, report this too with out stating it was me and put me "relationship" with my friend in more rocky water than it is... I did my best to explain that I really dont think its my friend fault, I think it is his family... yes he should say something to his parents about it, but he is just there to get better with his illness. Like I said no excuses for him, but I really just want to blame the family, and I dont even think it is one of those on purpose things. I think they'er heart are in the right place but they took on way more than they could handle and dont have the right knowledge for it. I know he has stated to me he would prolly be able to convince his mother to give some up, to another home, say if I wanted one.. but I cant just find a home for one... i need to get them all out

please I need your guys help... I know a lot of you are going to voice your anger about the issue, but I really just need you help about what to do to get these guys out of there... with out cause to much conflict... please, post some link and phone numbers and anything you guys and find out

*inhaling deeply and biting my tongue* Does your town have an animal controll office (ya know, a.k.a. a dog catcher) or an ASPCA center ... those would be my first two calls, then I might call the place where mommy works and let them know what is going on in her house so that she can't take any more animals home ... *going to the hospital now, think I need to have my tongue re-attached ... *

Firstly my heart goes out to the Son, I hope that he makes a full recovery.

I'm surprised that the mother hasn't given her Son much thought in all this hoarding of pets, Cat hair and birdie dust can't be very good for him.

*And now that I've calmed down a little*
I would call your local ASPCA, cat rescue, and any animal shelters in your area, if you explain the situation they will keep your name out of it. You are very wise NOT to take any of the birds, thats just opening a bit more space for more birds to be placed in the same awful situation.

This woman needs to understand that by saving the cats life only for it to live in a small crate has not helped the cat at all, what kind of a life has it got in a crate all the time, The birds need to be out the situation they are in, and if only she would rehome some of them she would be doing a great thing. (Same for the cats) Let them live where they can have the sun on their back and grass underfoot, Its admirable that she wants to save them but by doing so she has only made their lives miserable.    That is unforgivable.

Maybe you could offer to take care of them for her. Ok this is far fetched but if you could find a place inside or even try making an inexpensive outide aviary. Maybe you could explain that if they let you show them a few things you can almost guarantee that they will improve like starting with larger cages in a place where they can get stimulation whether it be outside or in - you could try putting plexiglass barriers on the outside of their cages to keep the cats away. Then if you offered to come over frequently you could make sure things are be taken care of. Of course best scenario would be to save even one of those babies :) This might be really far fetched but if you approach the whole situation from the standpoint that "wow you guys have a lot on your plate here why don't you let me help get the birds in some imroved conditions")

with that being said I find this situation infurorating! but you have to appraoch it as your helping the people and doing them a service or they are going to deny there is a problem. Of course, a call to the ASPCA wouldn't hurt anything.

well the bad thing in that option is that they are an hour more away. AND I have never meet the parents or know them well enough to say that to them... haha as it is this friend is one of them friend I talk to once every 1-4 months (so not that close)
I have their address and I am currently looking into places to report them too
will keep you posted

You'll have to keep us updated on this one. It makes me wonder how people with such a professed love of animals can really have a pet without giving it proper care/attention/learning everything about the way it needs to be treated. The quality of life for animals matters very much for that animal to have a good life. If you really loved animals, wouldn't it kill you to see them suffering?
Ok, I get angrier and angrier thinking about this so I am going to stop. I hope that with your help darkchi these birds and cats can get homes that will give them kindness for the rest of their lives. And I hope that your friend gets better through his cancer treatment.

I have nothing really new to say here as everyone else has pretty much said my thaughts. But you could also try the humain society if you have one in your town. I agree with Christy, but at the same time i understand how this lady could take in too many. Hope your friend gets well soon!
