What do you feed?

Hey,
So I was wondering what does everyone feed their birds?
Amounts and brands would be awesome to hear
I think it would be interesting to get sort of like a guide as to what is the best stuff and what isn't so great going on hear for some of the newer people

Luna does not free-feed.

I feed her once in the morning, then again in the evening, taking the bowl away after two hours for each.

Breakfast: chopped fruit medley, mixed with an herbal supplement and 9-grain cereal bits.

Dinner: a mash comprised of a bean and rice medley, with chopped fresh veggies. I make this once a week and refrigerate it.

I give her a hard-boiled egg twice a week.

And of course I sneak her little tidbits from my meals when she's being extra cute.

Pellet and veg, some meat, breat rice pasta. Pellet I use is Harrison

well i've had to switch pellets from harrisons, and now trying zupreem fruity when it arrives (to me harrisons seem the best brand, but nut was not eating them) but she does eat the power treats

fresh fruit an veg she will eat (lots off)

treats are meat, egg white, peanut butter, and whatever she might like, but these are given very sparingly!! and not daily!!!

nut is flighted, so can burn extra calories from the seeds an bad foods lol

I feed a mix of zupreem fruit pellets , zupreem garden goodness avian diet , hard boiled eggs, blueberries , brocolli and some seed . The blueberries and hard boiled egg are given seperately . and so is the brocolli . I mix up the pellets and the seed .

i feed the tidymix diet. everyone seems to love them.

Everyone gets the following for breakfast..... Sweet potato, zuccinni, yellow sqaush, butternut squash, peas, green beans, kale, apple (green only), orange, whole wheat pasta, chick peas (garbonzo beans), pinto beans, and lentils. (with avaian essentials sprinkled over the top (except Eclectus because they can't have Spirulina). When I make this food I add flaxseed oil to the food processor when I chop it.... (Less than 1cc for 36 birds for 2 days).

Macaws get almonds and walnuts daily along with cut Tofu

Eclectus get blackberries, strawberries,banana, and extra apple (need higher fruit content in their diet)

Cockatoos get Tofu as well (Moluccans also get more almonds because they require macaw levels of Protien)

Amazons get NO nuts or seed, fewer beans, less fruit, and more Tofu.... (gotta maintain their girlish figures! Lol

2 times a week I sprout birdseed and offer as a treat.

Everyone gets species specific pellets offered at the same time (I pull the fresh food bowls after a while and leave only the pellet until the following morning.

African Greys are on breeder pellet (because of the higher Calcium needs)

Moe, Sarah, CJ, Pepper, and Gabby get about 1cc of handfeeding formula if I am feeding babies.

Parents feeding babies are also offered a great deal of extra pellet and a mix of chopped almonds to keep their weight up.

Treat.... Yogurt, cheese, grapes, peanut butter on a Wheat Tortilla, chicken, and bird bread.

Our little birds get about 5 saflower seeds each a day.

I use Pretty bird pellet because it is well accepted and a decent pellet.

Charlie gets a couple of tablespoons of Harrison's fine everyday which is offered all day. He gets a veggie medley every day which contains a combination of whatever veggies we have in the house which most often consists of carrots, a variety of peppers, peas (both fresh and snap peas), and broccoli. He is offered other veggies (zucchini, cucumber, potato, sweet potato, cauliflower, corn, spinach etc) as they are available but other than the corn, he does not much like these other veggies. He gets grains several times per week (cous cous, quinoa, etc) as well as different types of beans and often bits of egg. His treats are almonds (about 1/2 daily - used also for training), berries (blueberries being a particular fave) and other fruits more sparingly, other nuts as available, and perhaps a half tsp of seeds or so per week. I'll often give him bits of what we're making for supper so long as its healthy for birds. He came to us pretty much unwilling to eat anything but his rainbow pellets so its been a long struggle but he's doing pretty good and eating more adventurously all the time.

All our birds get Top pellets. The African Grey also gets a bowl of vegetables (typically some combination of the following: soybeans, sugar snap peas, carrots, yams, corn, black-eyed peas, lima beans) and whatever fresh fruits are available usually topped off with dried pasta and almonds. She also eats dinner with us and wants to sample whatever we are eating. Treats: cheese, dates, dried figs, yogurt and peanut butter. She absolutely loves frozen fruit bars.

In addition to the pellets, our budgie, cockatiel and Hahns Macaw also get a vegetable & grain mash that we make. (The Grey looks at you as if you are insane if you try to offer her the mash.) The Hahns loves blueberries, the cockatiel and budgie have no interest in fruit.

Mine gets a blend of Harrisons, TOPS, and Roudybush mixed with a seed mix and a nutriberry or two along with dried vegetables. This mix stays in her cage at all times. Once or twice a day, she gets fruits and vegetables mixed with pastas, rice, and beans, along with bird bread. (I make the mix up and freeze it then just add fruits and veggies.)

In addition, she samples what we eat. I give her sprouts a couple of times a week. I hang millet in her cage once a week. And she gets a variety of treats when we train.

When I got her, she had bare patches and was eating wild bird seed and chex mix. The seller actually sent some home with me. Now, she looks fabulous. She is also fully flighted and gets about 6 hours of out-of-cage time a day. She also has two huge cages that are in different rooms so she can follow us about. This keeps her burning a bunch of calories.

Well my vet told me that the Zupreem fruity pellets with Lefebers nutriberries for treats was not enough because Oscar developed vitamin deficiencies on them (he gets some nuts, eggs, fruits and veggies too, but eats mainly the Zupreem pellets). So he just switch him to Harrison's High Potency for a few months then switch to maintenance blend. Now if only I could get him to eat it. I'm going to start another thread to ask for help with this actually. ^_^
