I have never fed the parrots beans, unless it came in some birdy mix to cook, or green beans. So I was wondering what kinds of beans you guys cook? How do you cook them, and can you freeze them to feed later?

I have bags of frozen peas and lima beans. I put a little bit in a cup with some water and mic for 30 seconds or so, drain off the water, let cool and give them to River. He really seems to like them. It's funny though, he "peels" each one, eats the middle, and throws down the skin.

I have heard lima beans aren't good for parrots. I avoid frozen mixes with them in it. My parrots LOVE peas, but I am talking beans. Like black beans, kidney beans... Those kinds of beans. :)

Holly eats green beans like they are going out of style! She eats purple hull peas readily also. She likes fresh over canned.

for dried beans you must soak over night, rinse and bring to a fast boils and continue boil for 15mins, timed from when it starts to boil, then depending on bean simmer for 1 hour to 1 an a half

that 15mins fast boil is to kill toxins that are present in dried beans

you can do veg broth etc for birdies an family

when beans are cooked, treat them as you would any other high protien food, like meat, so chill, bag up in portions and then its easy to bring out what you need for your birdies

beans are high in protein an fibre, might seem like a lot of work, but if you make a big batch up, you can just add them to chillies etc and in to long run work out cheaper
