It's very sad but that's why I was trying to tell you....I still love the Cockatoos dearly!!! We've owned ours for over 7 years, wouldn't have her any other way!

Good article, guess that's why i don't have a too. Lord knows i've turned gown a truck load, just a little too high maintenance for me. The author does seem a bit jaded toward breeders though, not sure how many she has met.I think she might be confusing breeders with bird brokers. Breeders today have a lot more invested in their babies than just money. Many are not much different then rehomers/rescues in that they are very selective about where their babies go and try to educate new owners. Impulse buying is is not good for any of the parties evolved .

Eight year old female Meyers Parrot and three year old male Scarlet Macaw.
Oh yes, I saw that site when I first got into parrots over eight years ago. The cockatoo screams on the index page scared the crap out of me back then.
Definitely worth reading over and over for anyone thinking of getting a large parrot, especially a cockatoo. And we really need to rethink the whole "breeding parrots for pet trade-thing"...:15:

I agree with you. I feel the cockatoo, and perhaps all parrots should just be adopted out if possible and breeding stopped our controlled better. With such a needy bird i feel either only certain people should be allowed to have one if they fit the criteria. Lately I've been seeing more and more cockatoo birds for sale/adoption. Its not fair to them.
