Typical example of people using pets as a piggy bank. People like this should not be pet owners.

I have 2 macaws, one blue and gold, and the other is a scarlet.. I am asking a rehoming fee to make sure they go to a good home. Totally agree with you ! These people always say " I hate to give them up" but what they really mean is, I bought these lovely Birds on a Whim and now I cant be bothered to look after them!!

Yeah, the last thing I'd sell is a pet. Sorry but if I got that desperate it would be one of my guitars or something. Most of us have plenty of material possessions that we might like, but they aren't part of our family.

I am on disability and needed a new well drilled last year. It cost me almost $5k. I never considered, say, selling my horses. I sold my classic car to recoup the money.

That person made me so angry. When I contacted them about the grey, they didn't ask one thing about what I may/may not know about how to care for their bird properly. Just, how much will you give me, she goes to the highest bidder.

I didn't say anything back, because it wouldn't have been very nice!

Saw another ad today for someone's caique that says "make an offer we can't refuse" (plus no cage!). Is it the time of year to bring out the uncaring jerks by the droves??

When I was looking for a new flock member recently, I contacted someone with a Grey. She asked me my plans for the bird should I die before it. Normally I would consider that a very good question. However, this was a person rehoming her bird after only 5 years because she bought a new house and didn't want any mess. So her birds were now living in her laundry room, and her cats and dogs were moved outside. I found out about her dogs and cats because I had asked if the bird was used to cats.

I didn't like that her new house was more important to her than her animals.

I think I should stop looking at craigslist, the picture listed for these poor birds is ridiculous! I didn't know they made something so small.

I just really hope there's more to it that maybe you can't see in the picture? Makes me want to go swoop those babies up, but I don't know where I would put a parakeet cage and feel that it was in a safe place from four legged creatures.

I had to stop looking at CL, too. Otherwise my house was going to be filled with conures, Quakers, budgies and cockatiels. All needing new cages, of course.

That is the most awful cage I've ever seen! I thought it was bad the size of the cage my Amazon was in. It's smaller than the one my conure is in.

I was amazed how many people were trying to get rid of a hamster. My goodness, it lives a whole 2-4 years and doesn't require much care.

You should contact them Scott, I can email the phone number. You can check to see what the rehoming fee is. I guess since their needing Christmas money they might let them go at a reasonable price. It would be about a 4 hour drive for you.

I hope they find a lump of coal in their stocking Christmas morning the @#$%%^^&&*%**^^ and #%$^*&&^())&^&^%$% and furthermore **&^%$&$%$&*&%%. I'm glad Mac wasn't around.

Im so glad there aren't many people like that where I live.
Well Ive never met one to be honest. (for birds - do have them when it comes to cats & dogs)

No one uses craiglist in my country, when it comes to birds/parrots.
They use another site, the ads on their doesn't look bad. All the birds look in great condition. (unless it comes to a few breeders, selling their breeding pairs -are plucked, etc)

I feel so sorry for animals just being sold forChristmas money.

Rio Mom, About your picture of the parakeets. It looks as though the two are snuggling up on a portion of the cage. I have seen these cages and they resemble a house with the little roof thingies. in the pic I can see more of the cage (red lines behind and sides of the little roof place they are perching) so I am sure the cage is way bigger than the pic suggests. It would be helpful that they would mention that. I only know because I use to belong to a bird club that did raffles twice a year and such cages were offered in the raffle. They are hard to keep clean though but look really pretty.

I hope this helps put your mind at ease a bit. I see a lot of adds on CL also for birds. It seems the hormones are out and people can't handle their birds anymore. It makes me sad but I also do forward the really sad ones to my rescue group.

Well that does make me feel better. I was hoping that was the case that it was just a portion of the cage. I thought, good grief! I've never even seen a carrier that small!

Yes, I could see that, too... I don't think anyone makes cages that small.

What you can do is "flag" any ad on Craigslist for being inappropriate ... but I suppose these horrible people would just find a different pac to advertise ...

That's too good for them. Coal is useful and valuable, you can burn it to get heat! At our house we were told if we were bad, we'd get driveway rocks in stockings! (Yes, my Dad is a retired stationary engineer - one of those guys that provides electricity for the rest of us!)
