So, i was talking with my dad (a man who has grown up as a fairly country kinda a guy, farmer and such) and I was telling him how i was so disappointed how it was hard to find a good seed mix as a treat for my birds with no harsh chemicals and that didnt cost a small fortune. Where as he replies, " Well, if you don't mind a 15 minutes drive out of town we you can drive out to the grain elevator outside of town and bring like a 5 gallon bucket and ask for them there. " Confused i asked more and it turns out if you go there and explain why you want the mix they will fill a bucket or large sack for you like i mean 50+ pounds of random seeds they can eat along with a ton of sunflower seeds and corn and other mixed grains (usually seperate bags for each 20-50lbs each) and each back is like SIX DOLLARS!!! I was blown away. I guess it pays to live in a state that has a huge farming population (Minnesota/North Dakota boarder) Needless to say my birds are in heaven with the treats they are getting now. Not enough according to them but enough to make for a couple of very happy amazons! Just thought i would share my amazing find!

Yes, it is! I have all my horse grain mixed at the local elevator as well. It's not only less expensive but I can control what's in it. The commercial mixes are filled with so much molasses it's disgusting.
