I could be wrong, but I think someone posted about this a couple of weeks ago. Many of the birds were sick or dying, living in filthy conditions with mice and rats, and had no real shelter from cold temps. It was in the UK and I'm pretty sure it was called the Parrot Zoo.

I don't think it's true at all. Derren Brown is the patron for the charity and he cares very much about bird welfare. + I've seen pictures of the place (I know they can be edited) and since they work with different universities with Vet students... just doesn't seem very likely. Especially with it being the biggest parrot sanctuary and with people able to rehome their bird there... just doesn't make sense. So would be nice to see what you mentioned so I can see they're reasons/if it is that sanctuary

It's always hard to judge from media reports what is actually the truth unless you see it yourself. I think we all know reporters are going to say things and take pictures that make their point, but this was pretty disturbing.

Hmm, those images look really disturbing. I guess I won't advertise the fundraising site until I've investigated further. Hm, and I was really considering rehoming my budgie's with them, nice big aviary, vet care.
I mean I've been reading the blog, they're building much bigger aviaries and enclosures and stuff. But then it's a case of media vs their website, obviously one is going to oppose the other. Would be nice if I could afford to get there and check it out myself. >: (

Took down the link and fundraising thing. Gonna get in contact with a few people and see what they say. hmph. How irritating. I finally decide to help what I though would be a 'good cause' and boom, they suck and now I want to work against them. hey ho. >: (

I know, but it happens. I'm sure there are other parrot rescues in the UK that deserve your time, attention and money.

I joined the facebook group that lizardsmells linked on the other thread. Reading through more information on there too. Apparently people from there have been getting in touch with Derren but their posts keep getting deleted.
I'll look into other rescues. I thought this place would be wonderful, teaching others about the different types of birds, interacting with them, a good sanctuary for the birds themselves.
So very disappointed. Merlin has also been screaming his head off whilst preening me - almost like he knows he isn't happy with whats going on! >: (

They definitely pick up on how you are feeling. Sometimes I'm still crying over my BCC who passed away 3 months ago, and my other animals don't know why I'm upset, and they get upset, too.
