I'm something a nail polish junkie and change it up at least once a week. This past week I've been saving tiny molted feathers from Kazi's head and so last night I stuck a few feathers on my nails. I only got one pic worth showing, though, it's hard to photograph painted nails with a cell phone!

Anyone else do this or anything with dropped feathers?

I think that's really cool! I used to collect and even show model horses. I used some feathers to make a Native American costume for that once.

Thats really effective I put all sorts of designs on my nails, but had never thought of a feather LOL

I have mostly Breyers. I have some Peter Stone as well, and a couple of old Hart ones and one Beswick. I started collecting them at age 4 and probably have around 600 of them, lol!

That's AWESOME! You must have a wonderful place to store them all.

I have probably 10 Breyers and some painted ponies too, fills my little display table in the entry way.

How many horses do you have? I have 4...well...okay...3 horses and a pony. I think I have pic's of them in my profile albums if you want to check them out.

That is the coolest idea ever! I'm going to be honest here and say that I almost never paint my finger nails, but I do usually have my toe nails painted but the only colors I even own are black, blue, and silver lol. I think I will be scavenging feathers from now on for nail painting because I absolutely love this! Did you put a feather on every nail or just certain ones? It's a shame, my favorite colored of all my budgies just molted last week and vacuumed up all his feathers!

Luckily everyone is starting to molt now so I should be able to get plenty more, I think black polish with some pretty blue budgie feathers would look really cool. Thanks for the great idea, wait until I tell my SO that I need his help to put bird feathers on my wet nails, my hands are a bit shaky to do that myself

They do take up an entire bedroom with shelves floor to ceiling, lol! And they are a pain to wash/dust. It's an entire day's project when I do it. I would love to build glass door display cabinets for them. I just never do as I know someday that room may need to be used for something else as well. Right now they are actually boxed up because I had to have my crawl space under the kitchen replaced. I didn't want them all to fall over when they put the house on jacks. And then I said hmm, I should leave them boxed until I remodel that room or I'm just going to have to do it again.

I have only 2 real horses these days. Due to my health, they are enough to care for, and I don't show anymore. I know when my old guy dies, I'll have to get some other companion for my mare, but it may be a pony, mini or goat.

It is a clever idea. Personally I do not think nail polish is health for a persons body. My nails have been so healthy and strong after I stopped the polish. Not even on toes in the summer.

600! Wow! I have quite a few breyer models, but nowhere near that many! Lol

I have actually never been one for painting my nails... I'd hate to think what kind of damage it could do to the birds... Also working with Autistic people, different coloured nails wouldn't work...

Well, that's my excuse... I also don't wear make-up, perfume or jewelry...

BUT... I must admit, that nail looks awesome.

That's really awesome! I would try it, but when I put nail polish on my fingers, it feels like my nails are suffocating. It takes about a week to get used to it. Lol.

When I had mockingbirds, they would flip out if I had blue or black nail polish on, but other colors were okay.

I admit I don't wear nail polish, but it's because I have big ugly hands and nails. And with working in the barn and gardening, they would always look bad. But, I admire people with nice nails and interesting paint jobs.

If I don't keep my nails painted they are weak and prone to breaking. I also use several treatments on my nails and hands as well, but I have to keep at least a clear polish on at just about all times. There are actually several polishes on the market that don't have the harsh chemicals that are considered bad for you that older nail polishes (and many modern ones) contained.

And of course I never do anything with my nails when Kazi's awake. Only after he's in his room in bed will I break that stuff out. It gives me overnight for my nails to degas so they're not still fumey when I handle Kazi.

BUT... I must admit, that nail looks awesome.

At the rescue a couple a days a week there are three guys from a local assisted living home for severely autistic adults. One of the guys couldn't care less what was on my nails, but the other two always have to come see what I have on them next. I have one polish that just fascinates them because it shifts color as the light changes. For that matter it fascinates me too!

I don't ever use polish or have freshly polished nails around any birds though. Only after at least 8 hours on my nails will I put my hands near a bird. It's usually more like 10 or so, though. Safety first!
