Keeping Records

I have a fair few animals in my little zoo. Some like the snake and the spider have needs that I have never encountered before in all my keeping of mammals and birds. Some like the ring necks I am hoping to breed. So in order to keep track of who needs what when, I have gotten notebooks. One for my pet birds, one for the breeders, one for the snake and one for the spider.

I record changes to diet, growth (if they are young), cage/enclosure cleaning, vet visits, and any other behaviours etc that differ from the norm. I find these very useful for helping me remember each creatures likes, dislike and special needs.

I know I am overly 'organised' and I do have a minor obsession with notebooks but I wonder, does anyone else keep records on thier animals? If so, how do you go about it? What sorts of things do you record? And why?

I used to keep records, but on the computer, when I used to breed. I had to keep records of all their hatchlings and who they went to and such. Parent band numbers, etc etc. I don't have to record what each one is like cause I remember all my animals. I have names for all my birds and I remembered them all at the time when I had over 150 birds.

I have a small cabinet with hanging files on it for my animals as well as stuff I can't lose like our birth certificates and things. I have a section for pets that has AKC registration, pictures of parents if I have them, receipts from vet bills, copies of insurance policies (cats and yorkie are on different ones), just anything I think I might need in an emergency situation or would be hard to replace.

I have already started Pixie's file and she isn't here yet lol. I have my copy of her deposit contract and breeder pictures that I have gotten so far.

I have a folder on my laptop - called Mishka
His weight - Weighed weekly
Vet Visits - Each visit recorded
Word chart - Words and sentences he is saying - updated weekly

I have it on my computer in case anything happens to me. I have written what they eat, who their vets are, how often they are fed and how much, likes and dislikes, and for the birds, what they say. Also what their routines are. And any health issues they have.

We keep pretty good records on our pet and breeder birds,band #,pic,weight records,vet visits,what meds,what issues,hatch dates,offspring, etc. Of course we're breeding second generation amazons and at least 4th/5th generation tiels.I can remember all the names and thing but small facts escape me sometimes,like who is the daddy of who,so records are very important.That and it helps when i talk to the vet and can give plenty of history.

I always keep records. Always good to have for your Vet. But when I started breeding dogs it was a must to keep track of birth dates, shots that I gave the animal etc.

Also have to keep extensive record keeping for all my Sugar Gliders I breed too. And now my 2 new members of the family, my 2 Sun Conures.
