So, I've never been one for Valentine's Day, never had a significant other or in my case now, he hates consumer holidays so, no chocolates and flowers for me! lol BUT! My lovely wonderful ani-babies make me so happy... To start my morning, Bleu looked over at me when I said "Morning!" he looked back at me, ruffled up and yelled "GOOD MORNING!!!" right back, then he ran around on the boing playing and chatting. I got up and put fresh food in their bowls and told Lucy she looked very pretty today and that her feathers are looking better, she ruffled up her feathers, cocked her head to the side and blurted out "Pretty Girl!" in her little gravely voice. SMITTEN! <3 It's her first real phrase, she hasn't said it again all day but... that was more than enough for me :21: Then before class I told Lucy "gimme kiss!" and she did (our usual routine) and Bleu started making kissy noises from his perch, I went over to him and for kicks said "Bleu, gimme a kiss" and I'll be darned he stretched up and kissed me just like Lucy does.. I was so daggum happy haha I love my fildren...

<3 :green1::green:

OOH and I forgot to add, this afternoon Osiris followed me around the apartment all day long while I did my cleaning :) he comes when called now. Even my lizard is brilliant! <3 he usually climbs up the couch and hangs out in the sun... <3

Awwww! How special! I was just going to come in and make a new post about my valentines day with my birds too!

I've had the most stressfull day starting with a hundred plus mile drive to court for my son this morning, back to work to finish out the afternoon and then having to attend a mandatory meeting AFTER work. My Spouse is out of town attending a conference and won't be home til the weekend, and yes...he too, is not into the consumer holidays..usually, that is.

But tonight, all my troubles melted away, when I walked in the door and my Chicken Little started talking. I brought him out and he immediately kissed me like 5 times, complete with sound...ohhh my gosh I almost melted right there! THEN, he started whistling for me and to me, like he was absolutely serenading me...he NEVER talks when I have him out of his cage! He was reaching up while whistling his song and touching his beak to my cheek...my gawwwwd I choked back tears!

He shared my dinner, he preened my hair and kissed my cheeks and now he sits quietly on my shoulder while I type this. He won't yet let us touch him with our hands on his head, but tonight he let me bury my face in his neck! AMAZING!

Chicken Little, all by himself, absolutely MADE my day.

He's owned us for 11 months now and was a scrawney wild little tiel we felt sorry for at Petco last March. He sure has come a LONG way and OH MY GOSH I love him sooo!

Cockatiel Kisses Made my day!

I'm glad you had a similar experience...birds are truly so very amazing and I have to admit, they bring me to tears, happy tears that is, more often then I care to admit, I'm sucha softie!

Happy Valentines Day!

Toni

Birds will often learn quicker from each other than from us. Talking, tricks, behaviors, whatever. Many times I have used one bird to tame or train another. When they see you handling another bird, the flock instinct kicks in, and they feel you are okay. It's worked many times, with difficult birds, as well. And many of them will learn words from each other.

Nakiska: Our fildren really know so much haha, it's like they all have ESP with all the other birds with humans and make plans to make us happy when we need it! haha

BillsBirds: I read that many times! I think Lucy is picking up the talking from Bleu, and Bleu is becoming more friendly because he sees all the snuggles and lovin' LoodleDoodle (Lucy lol) gets :) I can't wait to see what they do next, they always make my day more interesting to say the least! And to think I was terrified of birds not even 2 weeks before I put a payment down on Lu... and then rescued Bleu without a second thought just a few months later... I think I'm learning more from them then they are from me! Haha

I had a great night with my fids, too. I just got home from work and I always take them out one by one and give them their "night night" kisses.
Well, my problem child quaker who likes to lure you in and then bite the everloving crap out of you gave me a kiss.
He watched me kiss the others, and he climbed out and put one foot up and I went over to him and said step up and he jumped right on my hand and snuggled with me.
Yay, I'm making some progress!!

lol nut didn't bite or destroy anything?? does that count :)

Lol! :p

I was out house hunting yesterday, so nothing really 'valentinesy' but Merlin woke me up with chattering today "Merlin" "whatcha doin?" "love you" and lovely whistles and whatnot. :) He has only been trying to talk in the past two weeks or so and he's just speeding along with things now! :)

Rowdy used to do that, too, when I had a bf.

I, too, had this really great day yesterday with my fids and furbabies. I think Merlin said "Hi" for the first time since she's been here. They were also just super active and happy yesterday, and we just all played all day, even though I wasn't feeling well, I managed. It might have been my best Valentine's Day ever.
