Just wondering if anyone else sees this.
Madison is about 11 or 12 years old now but she still eats soft food like a baby. You know, stuffing her beak full and trying to swallow it all at once with those head bobs. Makes eating REALLY messy and takes a lot longer since she never breaks pieces off, just tries to swallow it whole.
She sometimes does this with hard food for a few seconds when she's overexcited.
None of my other birds do it. I don't think it's a Macaw thing though, I figure maybe it's because she was hand fed for longer than most birds.
Doesn't bother her or me, just thought it was weird:)

Kito does the same thing every now and again, once he realises that he can't swallow it whole he starts slowing down and eats properly. :D

No all my fids eat the proper birdy way...:D

:18::18::18::18::18:

Imagine if someone(p.e. a visitor) who doesn't know sees a birdy eating like this...He'll think to himself:''When did they last feed this birdy?'':18::18:

Keupi - a Senegal.
Actually, it's probably an instinct rather than an issue. Just because our fids don't breed doesn't mean they lose those instincts. Birds in the wild love worms and bugs and 'squiggly' stuff for many reasons but mostly because they are soft and easy to regurg. In order to 'get it down' (and to regurg) they scoop whole and 'wiggle' it - thus preserving the food itself.

So, quite reasonably, the soft issue may trigger natural instincts even without a youngster to feed. Not a problem at all.

Yah, like I said, I wasn't worried about it.. was just curious if anyone else saw this behavior or not. I don't mind cleaning the extra mess and its kinda funny to watch her eat sometimes :D

There is one problem tho' I don't like cooking, I get bored halfway through, so have no idea how it will turn out :D If we have any volunteers out there to cook, I can supervise I'm pretty good at that. :D :D :D Sarah, ya may wanna check with the hospital BEFORE trying this cake. :D

Heeeey wait a minute, just how big is this cake? What are you tryin' to say? I'm not that old! I turned 28! I won't be old until I'm 30!! (JUST KIDDING)
Or are you suggesting that I eat a lot? I'll have you know I tried my bikini on and it still fits fine. Just looks really scary with all them scars. When I see people looking I say.. "did you ever see that movie.. aliens?" That or I tell em I was attacked by ninjas.
For my cake, I would like it to be made of steak, well done. I stopped being a vegetarian and remembered how much I loved steak- only to be told I couldn't eat anything fatty. lol. So one steak cake PLEASE..
The birds could enjoy that with me as well.. if I decide to share. You guys aren't allowed to have any. It's mine.

Wow talk about going off the topic :D

Well, Peta was going to make it large enough for me to jump out of as sort of a "glad your feeling better" surprise, but I refuse to jump out of a "steak cake" that's just too messy!
