Rope perch

Its time again to get Pearl a new perch and she just absolutely destroys everything wooden which I know is their natural instinct but I was wondering if I could use a zig zag rope perch as her main perch to food and water bowls and I can bend it so it would be more fun for her.Would this be okay?

I think birds like them because they are comfy to stand on and fun to climb. I'm sure she will like it. All my birds have one rope perch.

I'm sure Pearl will love it. Sometimes I attatch them to the top of the cage and make like a upside down U . My guys love climbing on and crawling under then and you can change them around so its a new "maze" for them...'
I like to buy a couple at a time

You can get different sizes too.

I know , right ! Must be comfortable if Amigo uses it as a night perch because they are on it for hours. Makes you feel good when you find something they REALLY like

Id be careful with that exact perch. I just ordered it from amazon for my sun conures new cage and tried to change the shape. the fabric is wrapped around a metal rod to make it bendable. when i tried to change the shape the metal showed through the fabric thats wrapped around it. i dont know if its a safe metal so now i am scared to use it. i have several of the non bendable rope perches and love them. please dont mind the spelling im on my phones browser.

Thanks for the warning about the rope perch Jenlynn. Sounds like it couldve been a faulty perch ? I have been using them for quite a while and havent seen that defect (yet) . Hopefully we wont. That is scary though , good thing you noticed it before using it. The non bendable ropes are great too , they do hold their shape nicely , I have those as well. We cant be too careful when it comes to our birds

Hmm, that's a good question. I'm not sure if any of mine have the metal in them. However, unless your bird is constantly chewing on and ingesting the metal, it is probably fine to use. I kind of just went through this with my Grey who was chewing the cage grate. She did not have any metal in her. Now, some birds really have a thing for metal and others never pay much attention to it.

My previous vet told me the only case of metal toxicity he had seen was an amazon who ate a lead weight that was in an aquarium. It was holding a plant down and he pulled up the plant and ate the weight.

OMG ! How horrible , poor thing. Its amzing what they can get into so quickly.
It is a good thing to check them thoroughly before using them.
Another post to learn by, and I'm glad no one got hurt from it.
But it wouldnt hurt to know what kind of metal is used.

A lot of curtains have those little lead weights in them as well at the bottom to keep them from blowing around. I've heard of birds getting those, too.

But, the chances of your bird chewing that metal in the perch and actually getting enough in it to hurt it are probably not that high. Although 'Toos and macaws can really go to town chewing something up. Hopefully that wire isn't galvanized or zinc coated. I suppose you could contact the company and ask what it is. The only one of mine who will chew on rope like that is my conure. She had a swing like that and eventually chewed up so much of the rope I had to toss it out. But, I never saw her gnawing on the metal ring. She had that thing for years.

Pete is scared to death of his new one. I haven't successfully gotten it into his cage yet. I tried again yesterday and he just sat at the bottom crying for me to rescue him! He is honestly the biggest scaredy cat, lol! I guess this is what happens though when your bird never had toys before, nor more than one perch.

Poor Pete . If you just left it o the side of the cage for a couple of days , do you think that would make it easier for him to accept it ?
Or maybe if he sees someone else use it . It's really heartbreaking when they are so scared of something and no matter what you tell them , it doesnt help , lolol.
Time and patience may help Pete overcome his fear.

It's hanging on the side of the cage. I have to do that with nearly every toy as well. Although today he started playing with one that was hanging outside so I gave him that one, and finally he is playing with it in the cage right now. It took him a couple hours though to go near it after I put it in there.

He has a toy part that he plays with as a foot toy. I gave him an identical one today when he was out with me, and he was scared of it, lol!

He sees the other birds with their rope perches, and toys, but I guess he doesn't trust their judgement, lol!

It arrived today!Last post I meant I ordered it but I was excited and forgot.Well I put it in and after a few jumps squawks and me placing Pearl on it when she calmed down,she's okay with it now!She still glares at it but after I touched it and petted it and then petted her,she doesn't mind too much.
