So, just lay in bed watching One Born Every Minute. Merlin is fast asleep on my chest and I really need to pee, so it got me wondering, what stuff about owning a parrot (or bird, pigeon for some :p) makes you smile, or annoys you?

The little things, such as them being comfy during a really inconvenient time but you don't want to move them because they're just so cute how they are.

Any input, what do your birds do that you love/hate about them? :)

I hate when Con poops in my hair or drops food I give her cause she wants the piece I'm eating. I love when she leans her head into my hand for scratches, it melts my heart when she does it. I can't help but smile when she cuddles in my sleeve even if it makes it hard to read or eat. She has me whipped but I adore her.

I love when Pete also puts his head into my hand and closes his eyes. He makes very cute little thank you sounds, too.

I love how Merlin always cuddles close to me and likes to put her face against my face. And how she rolls her eyes up at me if I stop petting her for a few seconds.

I love Rowdy's kisses.

I hate how they all think the world has ended whenever I'm not in the same room as them.

Re: Thinks your parrot does?

Aw Roxy, that last bit made me very sad. :( Merlin's been very clingy since I got to my parents, he flock calls more than usual when I'm about(!) to leave the room. Hate the idea that my baby thinks I'm going to be leaving him and not coming back. :(

I love/hate that Merlin MUST share my food but I love that I can give him the tinest nibble and he thinks it's the absolute best thing in the world because it's something I'm having. Me and my other half had some streaky bacon earlier and Andrew went to give some to Merlin and he did the most adorable set of whistles in appreciation before he got it.

Lets be honest, we all hate poop, especially when it's in our hair!

I love the way Merlin makes purring noises when he's happy and when something funny happens he makes the cutest little laugh imitation.

Keep them coming guys, I'm getting kinda weepy. but it's making me see the little things I sometimes take for granted with him. :)

Re: Thinks your parrot does?

If I have to leave it's horrible. As soon as I start putting on shoes or pick up my keys, Rowdy keeps saying in the most pathetic little voice, "Be right back? Be right back?" She used to do it every morning when I left for work.

Re: Thinks your parrot does?

I love that when I sit in my la-z-boy recliner every night and at 8pm Molly crawls under my fleece and onto the left of my chest to sleep. She always squirms around, peeks out at me and then crawls back in. She then begins to grind her beak for the next few minutes until she's asleep!

I love how Molly is the smallest but most loving animal I could ever imagine!

Re: Thinks your parrot does?

I love that Paco enjoys talking, beeping and generally keeping me thoroughly amused while I do dishes(the most tedious task I do(no dishwasher)This seems to be the time he wants to be with me.

I love how all the birds go haywire when I vacumn, its just soo funny.Everyone screams at the top of their lungs and Paco flairs his tail and pins his eyes.

I hate that Paco still likes my hubby more then me.

I love that Twitter will lay in my hand on her back, to me thats just total trust.
I hate that she insists on sitting on top my computer screen with her tail in my way and gets huffy if I try and scootch her over.

Re: Thinks your parrot does?

I love reading all the above loves and hates........... makes me laugh

When Mishka sees me dressed, he says okay bye bye..... then I peep through the kitchen window, he runs around the cage calling mommy come here quickly mommy come here quickly. It breaks my heart.

Coming home he says I missed you today, of course I missed you today, mommy I love you mommy. It makes my heart melt.

When taking him out his cage, and placing him on his playpen, he does not let my hand go, nibbling on my thumb and kissing it. Makes me love him more.

When talking to each other and I do not answer him, he firmly says mommmy listen to me. It makes me laugh.

When he sees me carrying a broom, he says ahhhh mommy's cleaning. I think he feels sorry for me.

When teaching him something new to say, he sways his head in the most loving motion, to one side then whistles. I know he likes what he is hearing, and will soon hear it from him.

When taking him to bed, he nibbles quite hard on my thumb, then swings backwards, and continues to swing, all the way to the bedroom. He actually goes through the door in a backwards position. I think he is scared he is going to miss something LoL

How do you ever leave?! I would be helpless in the face of that. When I used to work for other people I actually called in a few times because the look my lab was giving me as I was getting ready for work just did me in. So I'd play hooky and we'd go to the park instead.

I just about lose it, like full on crying, when Kazi is snuggling his little head against my shoulder and making his little contented 'unh, unh' sounds.

I have also not gotten up to pee or get a refill on my drink because he was so blissed out and relaxed on my boob (his fave napping spot on me). When it's a cat causing me to not move I call it 'cat gravity' so I guess when it's the parrot it's 'parrot gravity' :p

I love the little noises Loki makes when he's happy (usually when he's being fed).

I love hearing is garbled "speech" as I can tell he's trying to say something but it's still difficult for us to understand.

I love when he's being affectionate and cuddly

I hate when he's nippy. It's my least favorite thing about owning a bird - the bites!

I hate the poop, no matter where it is (any advice for getting it off my couch?!?!)

I actually love the beak grinding.

I love how he can hear us in the kitchen even though he's upstairs in the bedroom in the front of the house (the kitchen is in the back) and either calls to us or decides to get down and try to find us himself. And how he insists on eating with us whenever he gets a chance and even though he gets his own plate or bowl, would rather eat off of ours.

I love that he's starting to give kisses again and not trying to rip my lip off my face!

Poop on the couch, yes I can do that one:)

One day my German Shepard not only puked all over my truck but pooped as well when he figured out he was going to the vet. He was a 130lb dog so it was an absolute disaster! The vet sold me this stuff in a spray can that can clean anything! It cleans poop, pee, vomit, blood and anything your kids or guests might spill.

It is made by Evsco and called The Equalizer. It is the most amazing cleaning product I own!

How do I leave in the face of Rowdy? It is very, very hard!

Hmmmm I do not like it when Puffin throws his food all over the floor and then says " did you like that?" My daughter is also none to fond of his screaming out her name for about 20 mins every morning after I wake her up.

I LOVE it when he laughs! Usually when we are watching tv and we laugh at something and Puffin laughs with us! I love it when he runs over to me and snuggles up close and says "aww lovey cuddles"

I love it when I come home and say "mummy's home" and Puff says " Party time!" and when he says " dads my friend but I really love my mum" I love it when I come downstairs in the morning and he says "good morning" and when he says Nigh Nigh when we go to bed. I love it when he tells himself off. I guess this says it all, I could go on and on about all the things I love but could only think of two things that annoy us lol

Every morning and throughout the day Pearl goes crazy on her toys for a few seconds and then looks around like "Why are you staring at me?!"

She throws food at the dog and then makes noises that scare the dog.

The really funny thing is every single day when I'm down cleaning her cage she'll crawl up to the play top then stretch down from the top and tries to grasp on the my hair and if I make my hand crawl up like a spider she gets really hyper and starts swinging her head down and making noises and trying to get the spider and she gets so going sometimes that at the end she has to go rest because she tired herself out so much and makes low growling noises. At the end there's always the innocent chirp.

i love the way when he hears me wake up in the morning he just says 'hello' very quietly then goes back to playing with his toys :)

i love the way he flies to me when i hold my arm out :D

i love the way he is cuddly and friendly and at the same time can be independent !

i love the way he goes to the toilet in the places i want him to :)

i love when he falls asleep on his stand then is too tired to want to step up to go back in his cage hahaha

i hate how he is such a fussy eater! :(

but mostly i just love him and the way our bond has built in only 3 weeks <3 :D

I LOVE EVERYONE'S STORIES !!!!!! (Yes, I'm shouting it out)

Pritti:
,

What I love,
  • the way he gets mad at his own feet when we're playing and squeals at them.
  • when he grabs one finger, beaks another one and rolls on to his back and plays with my hand.
  • that he takes his little wobbly ball and throws it on me when I'm sleeping, instead of screeching to wake me up.
  • when he honks because he's so happy he doesn't know what else to do -- it's so cute....honk...
  • when he pokes his beak in between my toes and tickles me.
  • that I melt when he cuddles up to my chin and lips, lays down and purrs or sleeps while I'm laying down in bed or on sofa.
  • I love the way he looks after a shower with his spikey head and all.

There are so many great stories here. This one about Puffin is one of my favorites. Cracks me up.
