I don't read to mine, but we do listen to audio books while I'm working. I don't think he cares for them much. He likes it when I blast NIN a lot better ;)

I do read to mine. My grand daughters will read children books to them and show them the pictures and they really love it. It's really cute to watch!

I never thought about reading to them - Wow! That sounds like fun! They love the streaming children's radio station I found - songs/stories, etc. I leave it on for them during the day.

BTW - Lizardsmells - NIN? Awesome! Got that going on at our apartment too!

Clifford likes TOOL :) He dances to that, and that stupid "im sexy and I know it" song
Maybe i will replace that song with some NIN and see what happens

Sometimes I'll read articles from the newspaper or magazines aloud to Ralph. If the article interests him, he bobs his head to encourage me to keep reading; if not, then he'll walk away and play with one of his toys. :D

When people ask me how to bond with their birds, I tell them to talk to them. A lot. If they don't know what to say, I tell them to read to them. Anything. It doesn't matter what. Then the bird gets used to their voice, and they're interacting. Also, when people read out loud, we tend to use different inflections and emotions in our voices. Singing to them also is good. They don't care if you're good at it. LOL

I thought my birds were the only ones who enjoyed themselves some Nine Inch Nails. :D If I play them classical music they scream and compete with it. I can play NIN, Rammstein, and other heavy stuff they're happy as could be and sing along (instead of scream) with it and dance.

I haven't read my birds any books. I don't like to read out loud. I stumble over words too often. With that said, I am an avid reader and always have been. My nose is almost always buried in my Nook. I should try audio books for them. I know my local library has a lot of audio books... my problem is I can never remember to return them on time. :p I've always got some sort of fine.

We don't read to them, but we put Martha Stewart Channel's "Petkeeping with Marc Marron" on continuous play on the DVR, over 60 programs worth. He usually has good stuff on birds.

The other day Chewbaca started bobbing and flaring her wings to the lead-in music to "Birding Adventures" while she was on my big toe as I had my feet up on the footstool.

LOL at everyone's birds liking NIN. I tried that and Loki about threw a hissy fit :(

I'm very eclectic in my music taste. NIN, Tool, Soundgarden, Nirvana, all have a time and place for me. My go-to-cleaning music is usually singers and songwriters; Sarah McLachlan, Sarah Bareilles, DMB, David Gray, etc. I guess what many would call "easy listening", but I also have some Linkin Park in there and such. Loki absolutely loves the song "Steal My Sunshine" by Len, which was a one-hit-wonder back in the mid-late 90's. It's occasionally played on a local station that plays a bunch of random music and every time it comes on, he goes nuts!

I've never thought of reading to them, but I certainly talk to them all day long.

Umbrella Cockatoo: Cameo
My 6 year old grand daughter is a very good reader & has been reading her books to Camoe for quite a while now. I never paid much attention to it until now but Cameo certainly likes the attention from the interaction. It also lets Shyanna be with Cameo on Cameo`s terms. Since Cameo does not care for small children close up (scares her). Cameo will come to her now when she sits at the kitchen table to read. Cameo sits on the back of the chair next to Shyanna but no closer.

Maybe I'll have the Spawn start reading to Loki and Sugar. She reads aloud (not in her head) and she needs to work on her bird skills ;) She's good with Sugar, mostly because she hasn't done anything to scare the living life out of her like she has Loki. Sugar will go to her (step-up) and take treats from her, but Loki won't. We can barely have the Spawn on the couch with us when he's out and snuggling against our heads on our shoulders. Maybe having her read to them every day will help change that?
