What kind of Parrotlet am I?

Hey I just got this little guy from an older couple and I was wanting to know what kind of parrotlet he is... I dont know much about them, but Ive been reading about them as much as I can.They said he is one year old, but he is so scared of me.

Is it possible for him to become hand tame or is it too late? And eventually I would like to get him a female ...Would I have to get a blue one or could it be any type of parrotlet?

He is adorable! He is a pallid blue pacific parrotlet. If you get a female it will be very hard to keep him tame. He is young enough that if you use positive reinforcement he should bond to you. Parrotlets are big birds in little bodies. You need to work with them everyday.

Thank you! I just love him! He is spoiled rotten already

I am a stay at home mom so i get to spend hours talking to him and getting him use to his new home. If I ever did get a female does it have to be the same breed?

Species! Birds are referred to as species.

If you are talking about keeping them in the same cage, yes a female pacific, any color would be best. I have friends that keep parrotlets and GCCs as companions but they stay in separate cages.

I have a Jenday conure hybrid and I have the cages beside each other so they can talk and see each other but i never let her in the parrotlets cage, i watch them very carfully i would hate for him to get hurt.

They may become great flock mates with a gradual introduction.

Parrotlets are very territorial, be careful keeping him caged next to your Jenday. I would also highly advise against you getting another bird to keep in the same cage as him, I can almost promise you he will never be tame if you put a female with him and unless introduced at a young age, parrotlets have been known to kill birds that are put in their cage.

I really hope so. I want to make sure they are good and comfortable around each other it would break my heart if any one of them got hurt! I just got my conure over a month ago she will be 8 in August and is adapting very well! This is her second home and bonded with me instantly! she spends 90% of her day outside her cage

When i got the Parrotlet he was caged with 3 other birds a parakeet and and cockatiel and finches. Hes not quite a year old yet

That's really surprising, they will usually attack other birds! Also, if you do get a female, I wouldn't get another blue, it is not advisable to breed blue with blue, not sure if you have the intent of breeding but if you have them caged together, it's always a possibility.

He is very pretty by the way.

Yeah i read that you dont breed blue with blue i think the green parottlets are so pretty!
