Is there anyway to look up an export band? I have 2 wild caught bird with export bands, but I don't know what the letters and numbers mean.

Please let us know what you learn. I just assume all but the oldest parrots in the US were born here.

Thank you Icy Wolf. I was already at that site. Our leg bands consist of 3 letters and 3 numbers. I was trying to see if we could figure out when they were imported. We have very little information on them. No idea how old they are. We just know that they were very malnourished when they came to the rescue, but now have a clean bill of health now.

Thank you so much for nursing them back to health! I'm a member of the yahoo leg band group, from what I've seen they usually only deal with breeder bands but they will probably be your best bet for quarantine band info as well.

Usually the band on imports just shows the state the bird was received into quarantine in. The number is what number of that species. On rare occasion there is a yr.

The leg band on the pigeon we just rescued from a neighbor's yard is: NPA 00 BP ()716

NPA is Natl Pigeon Assn. Their contact hasn't replied to either of two emails.

What makes you call them export bands ? i don't know what export bands are.Quarantine bands from the USDA ,yes. Never heard of export bands, who puts them on? Do your birds have open (like USDA bands) or closed (rings, like a breeder would use) bands. I think you might be confused.

I may be confused, the rescue I got them from said they were import bands ( I put export bands instead of import sorry!) They look like a ring that has a gap and they have 3 letters and 3 numbers on them. I was just really curious if those bands could tell us an approximate age. We really have no information on them at all.

All I have really learned is that they were quarantined in Florida when they came to the US

Fla,TX,and Ca. maybe other places. No the oldest birds in the US are wild caught. USDA quarantine bands look like their made out of aluminium and are open, they should have a date ,number code for port of quarantine, and a number. Most imports are just weaned and so date should give you a good guess at age.
