Sigh, bad breeders are so frustrating!

Sorry, this really isn't a question but I need to vent.

I was looking on our local hoobly classifieds earlier and came across an ad for someone selling breeding pairs of parrotlets, one pair is two american whites(dilute blue) and another is a pair of blues. Thing is, you should never breed same color mutations to each other like that. It can produce small babies with all sorts of genetic defects. And the only reason they do it like this is so they can guarantee to get that mutation rather than your standard greens which aren't "worth" as much. It's just so upsetting that they are selling these pairs to people that are probably just getting into breeding and don't know any better. I thought about sending them an email but I know they aren't going to listen and these people are usually quick to jump on the slanderous bandwagon so I'm keeping my mouth shut. Just had to vent, I can't stop thinking about the poor babies that will suffer from this kind of money driven ignorance.

I hate it too, I saw an ad on cl near me where someone kept a breeding pair of Indian ring neck parakeets in a finch cage(30x18x18)! And she actually called it "a spacious" cage in the ad!

I like the adds for LARGE bird cages and the pic is some tiny thing too small for a parakeet.

i never thought much on mutations as such and yes its unfair for the future chicks :(

if the ad's are free you could run an advice ad :)

when we were shopping around for pickle we went to so many depressing places. Dirty cages, screaming, poor treatment of their casual workers who were being yelled at for the mess or behavior of the birds, birds who all had overgrown/green beaks, feather deformities, were picking cage-mates, and scissor-beak.

Its like these places run for a such a high turnover, that their treatment of the parrots they have in the time being, doesn't even matter.

it amazes me - some people who get themselves involved in a business which requires so much work, time, love and dedication, when they clearly don't give a single ____ about any of it, and don't even know what they are doing. o_O

yes there are some great breeders out there. Most of whom i know in my area; treat it like a hobby. They ask reasonable prices and reasonable homes for their birds. but it is nowhere near enough to pay them for the amount of time and effort they have put into tenderly raising the chicks. They get that reward for themselves by knowing the baby is in good hands, and really enjoy what they do. :)
