Pepper, a Timneh African Grey
Yesterday my husband and I busted out 20 hours of road trip to bring Gabby home. It was tiring but we are done! A few notes:
1. Gabby has been renamed Pepper. We talked in a the car when we had her and we both agreed it was a perfect name for her.
2. When we met her, I was just amazed folks. Her owner did all sorts of things I didn't know you could do with greys-cuddled her all the time, pet her down her back. Pepper was very outgoing, stepped up for both of us and has continued to be very friendly. She gives kisses and was asking for scritches after a few hours in the car. We took turns sitting in the back seat with her, having her both in her cage and out.
3. She was nervous about the car ride at first, but felt better and fell asleep eventually.
4. She is smaller than I thought she would be. But much more beautiful. Her feathers are soft and healthy.
5. She sleeps in a fleece snuggle hut. I find this hilarious-I've never known a bird to sleep in one. But one familiar thing in her new home helped her go to sleep after a few minutes of amusing Kyle and I with her fun noises.
6.This morning she's been up for a few minutes and I'm hoping she'll eat and drink something-she ate very little and drank nothing that I saw yesterday.

We're excited! She is beautiful and I'm so happy we did this!

Sorry, I am waiting for lots of light! I left my good camera at a relative's house, so I have to take pictures with my crummy tablet camera!
One child has awoken and is in love with Pepper already. He gave her a nut and some scritches.

Congratulations!

Her cage is almost identical to the cage our kids hang out on. I strapped on a couple of plant hangers so they can get really high in the room. They slide down like the pole in a fire house.

The U2, J-bird, is a sometimes weekend guest.
We're talking about replacing the cage with a large perch which would be easier to clean.

Congrats on getting Pepper home! You both showed a lot of commitment already by traveling 20 hours to attain your new family member. Please don't get discouraged if Pepper becomes difficult to deal with. Pepper has been re-homed and things can suddenly become confusing to her when she realizes its a permanent thing. Regardless, It sounds like pepper came from a good home so with continued proper training, handling and loving, Pepper will be herself again in no time. Hopefully you'll get lucky and there will not be any adjustment issues.

What is the size of that cage? I need one for my CAG baby coming home next month.

Thanks everybody! She has been amazing so far. I can tell she is overwhelmed but we are just advising everybody to take it slow and gentle to earn her trust. But she is stepping up for Kyle and me, not quite for the kids yet,We are playing it by ear to see what she is comfortable with. She has been asking for scritches. She didn't want to eat until she saw me eating so I got a little kid cup with some of her pellets in it and she chowed down. When she saw me drinking my coffee and wanted some I got a cup with water in it and she drank that way, but hasn't drank from her bowls in her cage yet. She has explored the cage a little bit. The big thing in there is her happy hut she sleeps in. We are letting her rest in her cage but a few times she's really acted like she wants to come to me, coming to the side of the cage I am on and leaning forward on her perch, so I've taken her out.

Here's a better picture in better lighting.

The inside cage dimensions are 40 high 40 wide and 28 deep. I believe it is a California cage. We got it used from a macaw breeder. I spent a good 6 hours cleaning it over the last few weeks! It may be a bit overkill for her size but I'm hoping she will be happy exploring it all over.

sounds like you are in love. Little TAGS will make their way into your heart very quickly. They are on the small size compared to a CAG. Did you get a scale to weigh her? My Rosie weights in at about 290 to 300 gms. Congrats and have lots of fun.
