Nice video. I completely disagree with her that clipping wings is "mutilating" a bird, though. But, I'm all for people adopting!!! You can get pretty much any kind of bird you are seeking in rescue.

Just wondering Paul?? If the purpose of you showing that Video is to try and get people to adopt Rescue Birds rather that buy from a Breeder, then how come you are buying a Hand Reared Baby from a Breeder??

Because its my first bird but in future I'd be more than happy to adopt I'm not saying just to adopt a bird by all means feel free to buy from a breeder just make sure you have the time to spend with your bird so it won't end up in a rescue like these birds in the video

Great video, I wish all people looking to get a bird as a pet would watch this video. I agree that most all pet birds will eventually end up in rescues. Just for the simple fact of how long they can live. Most people aren't equipt to handle a pet for the next 70+ years even if they adopt or buy a bird when they are young. At least with children, you raise them and hopefully after 20 years or so, they fledge out and get out on their own. But not with a parrot, which will feel like raising a 2 year old child for the rest of your natural life.

I have no misconceptions here. I'm a tad past middle age and with a bum ticker, I know that my birds will most likely out live me by possible half a century. I have both of my birds listed in my will to go to my daughter, who can either keep them or find suitable homes for them with a list of requirements such as home inspections and such. But they are NOT TO BE SOLD.

As far as wing clipping being mutilation to the birds. I again have no misconceptions here either. Clipping a birds wings would be like cutting my legs off and having to depend on someone else to carry me around or move me from place to place. So yes, I'm sure to the bird it's like mutilation no matter how well intended it is. But I believe in wing clipping because to me, I pride myself in being a responsible pet owner and I know my birds most likely couldn't survive in the wild. So wing clipping is just one of those necessary evils that comes along with owning a bird.

I fully agree with you mike only part I'm not keen on is the wing clipping I think clipping should only be done if needed I would never have any of my birds clipped I'd rather give them the freedom to fly around the home I make sure all windows and doors are locked before I let the birds out that way there is no chance of escape

Your right about that rich to say clipping a bird is a must in any case is pure rubbish in my eyes clipping a bird is up the the owner if they want to clip or if needed for the birds own safety and just because you work at a rescue don't make you an expert on the subject I have kept dogs since I was a baby I'm no expert on them I know what I need to know and will give the info I feel is right to the person who needs help.

I've tried to read this 'string' of words 3 times now, and it still doesn't make any sense to me... Maybe you could try some punctuation???

Also your blue front isn't your first bird?

If your referring to the Senegal she isn't my bird she is my mothers

Wing clipping is a personal choice and totally down to the discresion of the Owner.......... After having a Bird break its neck through flying into a Window, then I would never take the risk again of not getting my Zon Clipped!!

Until you have owned a Bird Paul, then you cannot be a judge to other people!!

THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT WING CLIPPING!! so lets try and keep this to the original subject!! There is a separate section in regards to wing clipping!!

Well we do own a bird I feed her look after her when my mother isn't home in which case makes me second owner to her shes in my mams will to go to me and I have owned birds over the years budgies tells and love birds and i ain't judging no one I'm just giving my opinion which is what this forum is for to share experiances story's and to give opinions

If it takes you three times to read this post and you still didn't get it, maybe it's not the lack of puctuation. I could read it just fine.
