Rest in Peace Rio
I've been working extra hours the past three weeks covering shifts. (we had one employee have her baby earlier than expected, and another two related ones have a death in the family) So, we were out of everything! Today I chopped, mashed, cooked, and baked up a storm getting us restocked.

Mash, chop and birdie bread! :)

What is in your mash?

This batch I cooked sweet potato, butternut squash, and acorn squash. Mashed that up. Then I cooked split peas and lentils, mashed that up and mixed it in. I had some veggies I had previously chopped and in the freezer, so I mashed those up too (Kale, brocolli, carrots, red pepper, green pepper, yellow pepper, orange pepper, jalapeno, anaheim pepper, sweet potato, butternut squash, and sugar snap peas) Then I cooked some brown rice and quinoa, and mixed them in whole. Stirred in a sprinkle of cinnamon, and walah! (oh! and I used a little bit of 100% grape juice in the mixer to make is easier to blend)

What is in your mash?

This batch I cooked lots of sweet potato, butternut squash, and acorn squash.

The chop is veggies chopped fine, and lentils, split green peas, quinoa, and brown rice all left whole. Along with some cayenne pepper.

The bread is corn bread mix, two kinds of baby food, egg, almonds, and more chopped veggies.

I have a wonderful hubby who helped me peel/cut up the squashes and sweet potatoes. And then he made me supper tonight! :)

Do you freeze the extra?

Yep, I portion it out into ice cube trays, then once frozen I put 2 cubes into a snack size bag. Then put all those bags into a big freezer bag. Then I can just pull out a little bag to feed both birds each day. I switch up what they are getting each day mash, chop, cookable, etc plus some fresh fruit/veggie of some type, maybe some almond slivers, or a nutriberry.

Very healthy and easy after you put in freezer. Of course if your out of power for 5 days it isn't even for the birds. I going to do this on the weekend with carrots and mashed garbonzo beans in the mix. Of course other good things too. It is lots of work on cooking day. Do you have a dishwasher? Sure miss mine at bird cook day.

Our birds will be very healthy for these efforts.

Fortunately, we do have a dishwasher. Thank God! I love that appliance. There were sooooo many dirty dishes after making mash, chop, and the bread. Several pots, bowls, food processor, ice cube trays, etc. Not to mention dishes from food for ourselves! lol!

That sounds AWESOME! Do you ever go thru a making session like that only to have them not eat it? Thats my only fear with doing something that scale.

I had the same thought too.

But methinks I'll give it a try anyway.

I'm lucky that both my fids seem to love pretty much any mix I give them. Each day I put their bowls in with some kinds of cookable, chop, or mash and it's silence except for beaks clinking for a good 15-20 minutes lol.
