Maybe this is a side effect of hanging out with bird people online, but I keep on thinking of 'someday' birds. Especially if we moved I'd love to have a bird-friendly room where several birds could fly free (an indoor aviary, it just rains too much here in Oregon to do an outdoor aviary!) I'm also working on an 'interested' list of birds I'd like to put in there. Anybody else do this? What birds are on your list?

I do know that often birds don't get along (like caiques!) but shhhh, this is my dream aviary and right now in my head they all get along wonderfully! I guess in reality I've heard of people doing small bird time out and then big bird time out.

My list:
Cockatiels
Pionus (either blue head or bronze-wing)
Smaller Amazon like Lilac-crowned
Caiques
Rose-breasted Galah 'too
ETA: Female eclectus

Unless a unique situation arises with my breeder, I'm probably sticking with what I already have..........now here are the "exceptions": Tres Marie or Magna Zon and/or Buffon's or Military Macaw...... (She breeds all of these)

I would love a dusky conure and an alexandrine. I know not rare birds but down here...they are.

Hey Loribeth, how's ChiChi?

I have trouble keeping up with the three we have, but if I had all the resources in the world I'd love a Cockatoo, a Hyacinth Macaw and a Grey... also a flight of finches, and possibly an aviary for a Rainbow Lorikeet. Oh, and I'm seriously thinking about chickens.

The chickens might happen, the rest is highly unlikley!

I want to get a macaw and a lovebird, but my dream flock includes a leadbeaters cockatoo, umbrella cockatoo, african grey, conures and other non-parrots: victoria crowned pigeon, hummingbirds and toucans and toucanets.

He's great! Picking up new words and phrases. Much more of a companion now! Hasnt bitten me in weeks! I'm even able to scritch under his wings! Hows scooter?

I know deep down I'd love a cockatoo. But, I really don't trust that I'm capable of having large birds. So I'll stick to the lil guys!

My friend and breeder has a toucanet! She's selling for 2100. He's gorgeous and he's hand tame. Gorgeous bird!

Hey Pookamama, just wait for the kids to move out and put birds in their room so they can move back in. That's what we did.

There we go! Only 16 years to go! :D Well, 14 for the oldest two. But we're a bit hopeful for a place with a second bathroom so unless the economy keeps going down we will likely move into a bit bigger house at some point.

The ones I have, plus a yellow dominant macaw and a Moluccan cockatoo. And, throw in a Hyacinth while we're dreaming. Oh, and a cassowary.

I think my flock is now complete with the three on the top fo my post and my last bird that I have been dreaming of since I saw a picture of one A yellow sided gcc whom I have had about three weeks. I like the fact that all yours get along at least in your dream. so far my quaker doesn't like either of the other parrots . The other two I'm not sure. the canary only likes himself. I have often wondered how when you see a parrot rescue on the internet, a pic, every bird looks like it is getting along with the other birds. my question is how do they do that? Right now I am too afrraid of possible blood shed.:D

Oh, a Turaco would be really cool, too!

While I'm at it, I have this fantasy of the perfect bird room. It would be divided between a living are and a cage area, and the cage area would have tile floors with a central drain, sort of like a huge shower, and it would have an open roll-in shower stall in the corner for cage cleaning. The stall would have a hose fitting so the entire cage area could be hosed down at need! There would be a divider between the cage area and the living area so I could still have my office with the birds, but be able to use it at night without disturbing them.

i would stay with small birds for the most part. but one execption would be a greenwing macaw. i always thought they were cool but my favorite bird store(also where im buying mine from:D) has a greenwing macaw, and its the owners so not for sale. but he let me hold it and i fell in love.
