I was thinking about this and it got my overactive mind twirling. When I was younger, probably 13, my grandma took me with her to one of her friends house. This woman had a large parrot, but for some reason I'm having trouble remembering of it were a macaw or cockatoo. It was sitting on a perch ontop of its cage when I walked in the living room and sat down. It all of a sudden flew off the perch and onto me. I had never been around a parrot before and I was pretty scared, but it just crawled up my arm gave me a kiss and I ended up sitting with the bird for an hour talking to it and playing. The owner looked surprised and said he really didn't like strangers and wasn't friendly towards them. When I got up to leave, the bird flee after me shouting "Britt Britt" (my name is Brittany) I had to hide in another room so she could put him in his cage as he flew circles in the kitchen searching for me.

Have you ever wondered what birds see in a person that makes them decide how to treat you/if they like you or not. They say dogs can tell between who is good and who is bad so I guess it could be similar in parrots, but it's puzzling to me. What do you think?

Parrots often do seem to have the ability to sense when someone likes and understands parrots, and they can be good at reading humans' body language too.

Disney---Sun conure
I think it's just something innate within them. I'm not sure about the reasoning, but maybe they don't need to have a reason! The sun conure I took in INSTANTLY took to me, and I ended up being the bird nut in the house (out of both of my parents, and 12 kids). Go figure!

I'm working on taking in a B&G whose owner doesn't have enough time for him anymore. The owner said that Thor (the macaw's name) knows who to pick on, and who to cuddle with. Those that are uncomfortable or just don't like the bird, Thor will tease them if they are around. The owner told me that when one of these "not-liked" people would use the restroom, Thor would take the opportunity to deliberately stand in front of the bathroom door and put his talons underneath to let the person know: "You are NOT coming out, because that would mean shoving me out of the way, and I won't be happy about it!" Basically, the person was "locked in". I thought that was so funny.... Somehow Thor knows!
