Parrot Acronyms/Abbreviations: Part 3

Sponsored Links
This is a continuation from Parrot Acronyms/Abbreviations: Part 2

What we tend to refer to as parrot acronyms or abbreviations are really take-offs from alphabetic(Alpha) codes used by ornithological programs. There are, however, inconsistencies in the rules governing the alpha codes; with some lists not including all species.

Many of the acronyms we are familiar with have been shortened from their normal 4-letter designations; while others have been created for convenience of parrot enthusiasts.

Re: Parrot Acronyms/Abbreviations: Part 1

I have some 300Gigs+ of parrot information, including images of injuries & sick birds, along with sounds, but because of the forum's posting limitations getting some of it up is a bit difficult.

Most of what I have is other than anecdotal or hypothetical and some is more technical than a lot of us wish to read.

Re: Parrot Acronyms/Abbreviations: Part 1

Even if you can't put all the information into one post, it would be great if all the information was in one thread. That way, it would be together!

And my oh my! This is probably the most extensive abbreviation list that I've seen!

FIDS - Feathered/Furred Kids

There's also FRATS, FILDREN, PARRONT and I think I'm missing one...

I own a "my-turd"

weco, I suppose people would still have to copy from the other threads, so figured it would be easier if it was all in one thread.

re: Some Common Abbreviations

We were discussing on a thread about the misconception of budgies and American slang term parakeet. I thought we could make a abbreviation of parakeet/budgie so it could clear up a lot of misconceptions. 3 TIMES have I givin a member wrong information because I thought she was using the budgie, not the parakeet family. I thought about B2E, B stands for budgie , 2 stands because we usually get 2 of the species for company, E because it ends in E. Is there a chance ?

re: Some Common Abbreviations

Arbitrarily creating our own acronyms may end up confusing us & anybody trying to figure out what we're trying to convey.....

What we tend to refer to as parrot acronyms/abbreviations are really take-offs from alphabetic (Alpha) codes used by ornithological programs. There are, however, inconsistencies in the rules governing the alpha codes; with some lists not including all species.

Many of the acronyms we are familiar with have been shortened from their normal 4-letter designations; while others have been created for convenience of parrot enthusiasts. In case you didn't know, a while back I posted two pages of known/accepted acronyms under: Parrot Acronyms/Abbreviations: Part 1 & Parrot Acronyms/Abbreviations: Part 2

TAKE YOUR PETS FOR REGULAR CHECK-UPS!
my cat died at 3 years old due to invasive kideny cancer. he was highly anemic and his kidneys and blood work were off the charts, the vet said it was the worst he's ever seen. we had to put him down that day. up untill then, he showed no sings of illness that we could recognize, however he was a ticking time bomb and only the vet could see it. we thought he was just muscular, but it was just his bulging kideneys. animals hide illness! he only showed signs the day before he died, before this, he seemed completely normal, healthy, and his usual self. his name was maxie and he was my best friend, because we thought he was healthy we didnt take him for check-ups but had we cought it earlier he might have had a chance. we learned from this, we should have paid attention, take ALL your pets for check-ups so they can be helped early on before its too late.
