Your Favorite...

I'm getting a new bird soon and I've done 90% of my research.
Now I'm looking for a opinions from everyone. Basically my choices have come down between:
Quakers
Senegals
[Sun, or other...]Conures

I wanted to hear from owners of these birds, and just tell me a bit about yours:
Personality - Nippy? Moody?
Cuddly? - Can he stay on your shoulder for a while or will he be jumping around?
Demanding? How demanding is he attention wise?
Bonding - How did it bond?

Also, if you recomend any other parrots that you like, let me know. I'm not getting into the Macaws yet.

I'm partial to conures .... can't imagine why :54:

But conures are a diverse group, they can range drastically in temperament and personality - so I can only answer for my Auggie (Dusky Conure).

Personality - Nippy? Moody?
-Very rarely if ever nips anymore, but we sure had a learning curve on that one. Moody... hell yes - but more often than not a good mood.

Cuddly? - Can he stay on your shoulder for a while or will he be jumping around?
-Both, it depends on his mood. Sometimes while I'm watching a movie he'll climb in my shirt and cuddle up grinding his beak for the better part of an hour. Other times I'd swear he has ADD and can't sit still for 2 seconds.

Demanding? How demanding is he attention wise?
-When I'm home he sticks to me like glue - though I have taught him to play on his own on a few occasions when I must get something done. While I'm away at work he is quite content in his cage (I've spied on him a couple times to make sure.)

Bonding - How did it bond?
-Like super-glue!

^Sounds like what my Lovebird used to do!

I am going to say that everything that AD said about Auggie goes for Hamlet, my Sunny ... (more info in the other thread - see that one) ...

I think that the smaller conures are great birds for people who are trying to get into parrots (GCC would be the best if they weren't so damn nippy ... I still can't train it out of Mac ... she's gotten a lot better, but the behavior isn't completely gone) they are great size to handle, and they have great personalities ...

There are two bird types that you could never get me to take in ... they are Cockatoos (too needy if not trained properly) and Quakers ... their little voices are like nails on a chalk board to me ... *ugh - shudder*

Conures, in my humble opinion, are the way to go ... but I also hear that Sennies are great birds too and I know that someone from this forum could tell you all about them (MEGHAN - CUE YOUR INPUT HERE - PLEASE!!) ...

Uh huh, that is the patented "conure spot" as a gentlemen that I know calls it ...

Conures are true cuddle birds, and like thier bigger cousins, macaws, thrive on human/flock interaction ...

I'm just about at the conclusion to get a Sun.
I'll have to make a schedule, and get him into a routine - take him out for a few minutes in the morning before I leave for school, then when I get home take him out and have him around my room hopefully until dinner. Then maybe some time after that, I'll have to make it more solid... sound good so far?
Are they too mischevious to have alone in a room while I'm eating?

My Senegal adds a nice energy to the house. He is generally satisfied no matter where he's at. Though he does insist on interaction right when I get home from work. He makes cute little tweeting noises until I put him on my shoulder, where he will sit for hours while I go about my business. He was nippy at first until he got to know me, now just uses his beak to give gentle guidance, never hard bites. I think the main difference you will find between conures and sennies is the energy level. Most conures I have been around are a load of fun but very energetic and fast paced. Sennies on the other hand, seem to like lounging.

OK here is my 2 cents. I love the greys for their brains, playfulness and lovie dovie tickles and learning tricks. Talking is a given. A real treat to come home to and wake up to. Never demading and loves to be with me but does play independently too. The perfect parrot in gray feathers. Connures can be too loud for me.

Who are the Red Sox and Yankees? Lol I take it they are not a parrot breed. Im South African so never heard of those?!?

They are two highly aggressive and destructive species that can never be housed together.
