Looking for suggestions for amazing parrot names. What did you name your parrot, and what does the name mean? I'm looking for something unique:white1:

Gilbert Oliver, Blue Crown Conure; Georgie, Sun Conure (2/8/01-8/8/12) RIP little girl; Percy, budgie 1993-1999. RIP Pepito-spanish timbrado canary
I think that has to be up to each individual. I personally like "human" names for my pets (not made up, silly ones--although all 3 of my dogs were named when i got them, and all 3 have non human names).
I named Percy after the poet Percy Shelley and Georgie was named after my grandmother. Gilbert just looked like a Gilbert and his middle name is Oliver after my mother (Olive).
I know a bird named Guappo and i thought that was awesome. Something that means something fitting in a foreign language is cool.

My godfather recently got a cockatiel and he borrowed my all-time favorite parrot name for her. I was saving it for use someday, but I'm honored to have a hand in naming her. Her name is Kite.

Mitred Conure - Charlie 1994;
Cockatiel - Casey 2001;
Wild Caught ARN - Sylphie 2013
My very first budgie I named White Waters. His colors reminded me of the colors of rapids, but he had a very sweet personality. My third budgie was named Storm Cloud. I actually recall looking up at a tiny dinky white cloud up in the sky, and the name "Storm Cloud" came to me! She was a blue budgie with a feisty personality! It seemed rather fitting!

I've also had Neon that was a bright green opaline budgie, Saffron, a mostly yellow budgie, Taxi because his green colors somehow reminded me of a taxi, Violet, well, Violet was violet! Also a Casper (all white budgie). Had a pair of budgies given to me named Cosmo and Sunshine.

Other budgies included Smurf (came with the name, blue budgie), Georgia & Sophia (both came from a Las Vegas breeder, so I was thinking names for show girls), Normie/Normand and Sora (sky). There's a couple of names I'm forgetting at the moment.

There was also Peachie, a peach faced lovebird that came with her name.

Casey, my tiel came to me with her name, as did Pistachio and Kiwi. Tomi Girl was given the name 'Tom' but she was no "tom"! I don't know what her original name was, if she had one. Faye was another I gave the name to, which kind of coincided with when I was reading stories about Merlin/Excalbur/Morgan le Fay aka Morgane/Aurthor/etc. Morgane was actually evil, but Faye is a sweet bird!

Noel (cherry head conure) came to me with that name, and well.... he was a red and green bird! Charlie, mitred, also came with his name.

Some are unique, and others aren't. People thought that White Waters and Storm Cloud were Native American names, and often wondered if I was part Native American (I am, but not enough to count!).

alexandrines : Oxy, Bruno, prince (was princess)
my babies name is "oxy" the story behind that is sad but funny.
i seriously hurt my back in april and was prescribed oxycontin for the pain. i was on it for 7months so it was not possible for me to just stop as it was to dangerous. my partner got me oxy for some company after i had some major improvement and was at the stage on being weaned off them. oxy was 11 weeks old and being weaned himself, there was that and after john mentioned getting me an alex it became my new addiction.

my last alex's name was phoenix... i bought her after my beauti*** blue hooded white IRN,bob passed. i didnt buy her as a replacement but because after i aquired Bob my other IRN Kya who was a very visciuos recue mellowed out and seen that i wasnot a threat from seeing me interact with bob. I didnt want kya to revert. not that she was handleable but she woukd occasionally come down for some fruit and allowed me to change her food,water and let me clean her cage.

apart from those i have had budgies.... BJ (yellow) Sapphire (blue) emerald (bluey green) and missy and cheecky (both yellow)

Pepsi and sprite, both are American male budgies
I named my two budgies after sodas because they are like toddlers who drank too much Pepsi or sprite. They are bouncing off the walls and are like, racing each over for who can throw thier fruits or treats the farthest off the cage. Chaos...

I only named one of ours; "Halo" for the game so my son would hopefully feel closer to him, all the other names I just shortened from what the breeder gave them except Shiloh.

Rocky (CAG is named for my husband who is a stone mason), Rue (CAG after girl in hunger games) and Nema (B&G) who started with the name Nemo until I found out he was a she. I was given some advise here to change the last letter and when I looked up what it meant ( a blessing) it was a perfect fit.

'Jack' (Blue & Gold),
'Maynard' (Military),
'Zaffer' (Hyacinth),
'Salsa' (Green-wing)
I named each of my Macaws, with the exception of Salsa.

Jack and Maynard were wild caughts. I acquired Jack just after my 24th birthday... lets just say at that stage of my life I was fairly creatively challenged ;) I got Maynard the following year... he just looked like 'a Maynard' to me - what can I say?

Zaffer joined my flock in 2005 ...I changed his name to Zaffer from the one he came with for three main reasons. Reason 1: because he hadn't had the best life and I wanted to give him a fresh start without continually reminding him of his past. Reason 2: I wanted him to have a unique name that no other Hyacinth I'd heard of or read about had. Reason 3: the meaning of "zaffer" seemed quite fitting because of his rich blue color (for those who aren't familiar, "zaffer" is cobalt oxide, a substance used as the pigment in certain blue dyes).

Finally, I will never change Salsa's name because it was his original name, given to him by his one and only mom (my dearly missed best friend), who passed away earlier this year :'(

So those are the stories behind the names of my Macaws. As for naming new birds, I think the best approach may be to allow each bird's unique personality, perhaps combined with its appearance, to inspire our decisions. Spending adequate time with a bird before selecting its new name would of course be essential. It's a very personal thing as I see it.

Fargo- Blue and Gold Macaw
hahaha I had the name 'Fargo' chosen out before i even thought about getting Fargo :p

I loved the tv show 'Eureka' and my favourite character was called Douglas Fargo... I then looked at macaws, and thought well, i will name him Fargo :p

When i went and visited the breeders, there were no boys for sale.. i was so upset because i wanted to call it Fargo hahahah.. Then when Fargo did end up coming back on sale, his name was 'Titan' (i'm pretty sure) but i said nope, its Fargo :p

I suppose it suits him, the character Fargo was incredibly smart but silly at the same time, so just like Fargo :)

Far-go... he will go-far ;) hehe

Oh, going to admit I chose my greys name rather oddly and to this day I still dont know why I named him what I did. His name is Tookie, and for some unknown cosmic reason he got it from the George of the Jungle carton where they are singing the intro song and the very last two words of the song are "Tookie Tookie". I have no idea what it means but thats my story and his name, and I'm sticking to it heheheehehee.

Piper - Peachface Lovebird;
Shade - Senegal Parrot;
Joey & Pixel - Red-bellied Parrots;
Petey & Zuri - Meyer's Parrots;
Léa - Cape Parrot
Piper - I liked the name and back then thought he was a "she". A few years down and a DNA test later, he was confirmed as a male but was so used to his name. It fits him anyways :)

Shade - according to some website, means "sweet" in Swahili. Might not be true, but I liked it and she is truly the sweetest bird.

Joey - came with his name and knew it. While it wouldn't have been my choice, I do have to admit that it fits him. I particularly like it when he goes "Joey-Jo-Jo-Jo-Jo..."

Petey - also came with his name and identified to it so I kept it. Again, wouldn't have been my choice.

Zuri - came to me with the name "Oscar" - and I didn't like the whole Oscar Meyer's thing (as he is a Meyer's). Again, "Zuri" apparently means "beautiful" in Swahili and is he ever! He has the most amazing colours.

Pixel - came to me with the name "Stewie". I really didn't care for it, nor did she seem to respond much to it so I changed it. Pixel just suited her and she gets the nickname Pixie (and is she ever a Pixie..)

Léa - originally thought I would name her Penny/Penelope but I might have had subconcious misgivings about it since, as we were waiting for her to wean, I asked my boyfriend if he had any suggestions and he suggested Leia (yes, after THAT Leia). Anyways, I liked the ring of it, but more so the French pronunciation (my native tongue is French). So Léa it was!

Yuki - Snow white budgie; Luna - Blue budgie; Pocket - Hahn's Macaw
I called my Hahn's macaw "Pocket" due to his size, and the breeder description of the Hahn's species being "Pocket Rockets" of energy. XD

My budgies are named Yuki (pure white budgie) which translate as snow in Japanese, and Luna is blue and white, named after the moon.
