Meyers parrot or Quaker parrot

Hello everyone

I really need some advice! I don't know if I should get a Quaker or a Meyers parrot. I wanted a Quaker till I heard they mostly turn on their owners. Is this true. I've been told after they get out of the baby phase they get real aggressive. I know they are cage aggressive. I have a five year old daughter, so I don't know if a Quaker would be ok for me. I researched and read a bunch of good things about them but a few breeders have told me to stay away from them. I own a sun conure and I'm waiting on a cockatiel to be weaned. I want to add one more to my flock. Can anyone give me some advice?

I never had a Meyer before, but I did had a Quaker. They are beautiful and are great talkers. Mine could talk up to 20 different words! Although it wasn't as clear as some of the other spices like the African grey, but he was very good for he's size. He was a bit aggressive when we just brought him, but I target/touch trained him, he was much better afterwards. Although he sometimes have he's bad day and can be a bit grumpy. That was about it, but he was a very sweet bird.

Definitely not true. Such behavior is more of an individual thing, and is no more likely in a Quaker than any other type of parrot.

Parrots of all kinds-- not just Quakers-- can go through an aggressive phase when they reach sexual maturity, but with patience and understanding, it's a storm that can be weathered. And not all Quakers are cage aggressive, though many are. Depends on the personality of the individual bird.

Spend more time with the two that you already have. You haven't even gotten your new Cockatiel yet and bonded with it. Then once you have done this for 6 months or so, then look at getting another bird. I would opt for the Meyers.

I like both species but I think the Quaker has a more even disposition. Meyers tend to be more prone to shyness if not socialized properly. However, Quakers can be noisier.

With a bit of time and gentle work Quakers don't have to be cage aggressive. Filmed 5 min ago when I read this thread.
