Lucky, Quaker, abt 18/male?
Previous birds: 2 Quakers, 2 budgies, Nanday conure, Indian ringneck, 2 tiels, Red Lory, 300+ finches.
I thought I saw a thread about how much different people's parrots sleep, but can't seem to locate it.

I know the generally accepted ballpark is 12 hours per night, but Lucky really seems to want to get up at 4:45 when I do. Usually I shush him, keep the lights mostly off, and the cage covered and he quiets down until I get them up around 6. But that means Lucky misses out on shower time until the weekend.

Also, someone is usually home and active until 9pm, even though birdies get lights out about 7.

So is the unbroken sleep more important than the early morning people time? Lucky will be going back to being the only bird the end of this month, so I want to make sure we're covering the basic needs bases.

I remember that thread.
From what I understand is that parrots need 8-12 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Often they will follow the dawn and dusk so slightly adjusting at different times of the year.
Our little brown head does exactly that and is sleeping about 12 hours right now, no matter what we do she goes to her sleep perch as it gets dark.

Our amazon on the other hand wants to be up with us, he heads to his cage around 8 or 9, but will happily eat and talk away till we cover him for the night.
He gets an average of 9 hours during the week, but on weekends gladly sleeps in and gets about 11.

I think it really depends on how they were raised, there age and general personality.

Hahn's macaw, RIP George, Jenday Conure
At first I made my poor Hahns a wee bit psychotic since I was used to my conure just flying off and going to bed when he was tired. So, Hahnzel wasnt getting enough sleep due to my being a nightowl. Now the latest he goes to bed is 11pm, but usually 10pm. He sleeps well until sunlight, I sleep later so I take the cover off for him then go back to bed.

Funny part is, since he sleeps in our bedroom sometimes I accidentally make enough noise to startle and wake him. He then tells me to, "shut up", plain as day!
