ok, so my house is a rental. i have a dog, a kid, a husband, myself and my sweet frick. It's not a filthy house, but it's....welll not fresh. I read something recently about taking the empty airwick style airfresheners, cleaning the wick and using a blend of water and essential oil instead of all the nasty crap in the store bought oil to freshen my home. Any thoughts?

Basically, do birds react negatively to essential oils?
Thanks

Birds are sensitive to smells, some more than others. My G2 can't handle the scent of anything, even essential oils. My GCC isn't phased by anything. Essential oils are relatively safe, but in regards to using a clean airwick, I have no idea.

You can burn essential oils, similar to a candle, and that's supposed to be safe. Personally, I just use some essential oil (a couple of drops) mixed with water and mist my carpet and couch. I use a vinegar and water solution with a few drops of essential oils when I clean cages (my cages are too large to remove from the room for cleaning, so I damped a cloth and wipe them down using that).

essential oils are actually very bad for birds I use a mixture in spray bottle of half water half lemon juice and spray it around the room t freshen up. you can also boil apple peels and cinnamon sticks in a little bit of water just enough to cover the peels and sticks and once thats mixed spray that around the room or leave lavender in a bowl of water to freshen up. Also candles are bad because of lead wicks and the wax leeches into the air and sticks in the birds lungs.
