Seriously. "Normal" people buy dogs, cats, and fish. Some even get bunnies or snakes. But we, the crazy people, choose to buy pets with beaks. Almost every parrot owner knows they are almost guaranteed to be bitten by their parrot. Some birds like macaws can snap broom sticks, yet we choose to buy them anyway. Of all the pets we could have, we choose the messy, loud, freakishly smart, demanding parrots. Instead of having an obedient dog, we would rather have a bossy toddler that bites. However, that isn't what makes us crazy. What really sets us apart is that we actually enjoy it. We love our birds, who just might be crazier than we are. every day we clean up after them. It's no secret that seed gets everywhere: in our clothes, other rooms of the house, even our own beds! I still find feather sheaths in my sheets. Yet every day, we come home, clean up, get pooped on, maybe bitten, and then we do it all again the next day. We spend hard earned money on toys that will be destroyed in a matter of hours or even sent to a soggy end in the water dish. As if that isn't enough, we go out and get even more birds! We all know that one eternal toddler isn't enough, no, we need more. What could be better than cleaning up after 1 parrot? Cleaning up after 5! Somehow these little terrors are too cute to turn down, and they know it. We are no match for their deceiving cuteness. If only we could see through the mask of fluffed-up feathers and big eyes, and into the manipulative, conniving, little minds our birds have. From day one, we are under their spell. We have been bitten by the bird bug and there is no turning back. Now, and forever, we are "bird people", the underground society of crazy bird people with loud houses, confused neighbors, and way too many cleaning supplies. We are the people with mysterious white stains on our clothes and beak marks on our shoes. In all fairness, we chose this, or maybe our birds chose us. Either way, this is our life. If that isn't crazy, I don't know what is.

haha, I like to call bird people passionate rather than crazy LOL

Sometimes when I'm on my computer and Rosie's on her java perch next to me it starts raining pellets, I pick them out of my hair and they go down my shirt and all over the floor LOL.

I had friends for dinner tonight and my husband and friends commented on how "you never talked to your kids like that when they were babies"...nope I didn't. I find some remnant of Basil when unroll my yoga mat every day. Millet, pellets, feathers. And I only have one little lovebird. My husband calls me a crazy bird lady. I take it as a compliment.

I own an CAG, but my mom has a dog - dachshund, whom I some times call an "African Grey Dog" as he behaves exactly the same - he ruins things, he is like a toddler, he is demanding and intelligent. LOL

I admit to crazy. I am being driven crazy by Rio...and yup, I come back for more! My parents are here and they seriously cannot understand why I am clicker training a seriously pissed off gcc. They roll their eyes as I pack her up in a backpack to go for a walk...and wonder aloud why I continue to work with an unpredictable fluff ball. Simple answer...I love her!

Pritti (Cherry-Head Conure) -- Fly in Peace my beautiful boy. Forever I'll love you.
And it's addictive ... as soon as somone starts to really take the time to listen and learn about Pritti and spend time with him, meaningful amount of time, I could see they are getting hooked and they want HIM to accept their finger or treat or kissy sounds. My mom is now officially a crazy bird grandmama. He's been staying in her house nearby and she keeps telling me she's not ready to let me take him home yet (been going on for about last 3-4 WEEKS. She calls to tell me about what he eats, what he's doing, how he is snuggling with her, and walks up to her and stares at her when he wants something. She is now speaking in total goo goo ga ga baby talk with him telling him how much she loves him and how cute he is. It's so coooooooool. BUT, I WANT MY BABY BACK, lol.

I had a dachshund growing up and my sister has one now. They are the only dogs for me...and yes they do have some birdlike tendencies. Demanding, destructive, stubborn and very smart.

:21:hahahahahahahahahaha, you said it. Back when I was growing up, if a dog seriously bit his owner enough to draw blood, the owner would take the dog out behind the barn with a gun:) So yep, I'm nuttier than a bedbug although the thought has crossed my mind.

LOL! This is so true! I have 2 birds right now. Just got Savannah a month ago. We are expanding our downstairs and they will now have there own room in late summer. And I'm already thinking, maybe there is a B&G in my future. LOL! Before Savannah I always thought, one is enough! It is addicting and they are so darn loveable!! Not sure if it will happen though, got to get past the hubby first. And I should probably wait a couple of years, don't ya think!

Speaking of bites, Quincy gave me a good one this morning. It actually made my hand swell. First time I've had his bite swell in 13 years! I think he got me in just the right spot, my whole hand was hurting this morning, but it's better now except for the swelling. Had a nice big frozen Turkey breast on it. That helped bring the swelling down. Kinda ironic I used another feathered creature to get the swelling down, huh! LOL! :D

LOL. I always feel a little confused when I feed my birds eggs :p. My family's dachshund is stubborn but a complete wimp :D. she has no poker face and is afraid of my parrot and cats, but bravely tries to catch the mailman every week
