Stories about those times when who is in charge gets a little blurry.....

Heidi, my patty actually likes to take a bath, but every once in a while she gets hardheaded, like when she isn't taken out of her cage first. It took me a while to figure out what she was bothered by.

I usually set up their tub every two or three days and she had passed on the previous two bath days...anyway I set up the tub & got a phone call and noticed Heidi was pacing around her cage...not a usual occurrence, so I opened her cage & she couldn't get into the water fast enough.

Next bath day I set up their tub again & had one of the suns on my shoulder & Heidi was having a fit, so I put the sun on the edge of the tub & opened Heidi's cage...she came out squawking & headed for the bath tub, chased the sun away, got in the water & you'd have thought something else was going on from the sounds she was making, so every bath day, Heidi is first.....

What do you give your birds a bath in and how do you encourage them?

I use the plastic bases to large flower pots.....I have them fro 8" 16" and 24" across, the depths are about 2 inches on the smaller ones & about 3 inches deep on the big one.....I was in NYC finishing a project several years ago & just happened to see a pots clearance sale, so bought 3 of each for $2 each.....had no idea how long they would last, but still only using two.....

I have been trying unsuccessfully to get Basil to bathe for the last week. I don't want to resort to the spritzer because he really hates it. He usually likes to bathe in the kitchen sink...perched on my arm (so I can get soaked too) under a very low running faucet. But he hasn't shown any signs of wanting to bathe. I take him to the sink and he has a drink then runs up my arm. I've tried different trays of water on the counter and he has a bath in his cage (he drinks from it). I'm afraid he "thinks" that the drink in the sink is good enough. He fluffs out like he's had a bath...like he's saying "good enough". Ugh.

Sunshine (Pineapple Green Cheek Conure)
Sunshine likes to take a bath when I take my shower.
I have a towel rack on the side of the tub furthest from the shower head. She'll perch on that while I'm taking my shower, then eagerly step up on my hand when it's her turn. I don't put her underneath the shower directly, I'll cup my other hand and use that to spritz the water in Sunshine's direction.
She seems to like it, especially since she watches me take my shower first before she takes hers.

I do have two cats -Riply & Nano bites-
four snakes- china, dip & stick, and Grand Chahee-
When I was at the shelter we had a... difficult.. vary angry 15 year old Cockatoo, we tried diffrent things, one of them was letting him drink from the spritser first... another was getting a dog bowl and putting it Directly in his cage and letting him deside when HE wanted to go down to it..

Yes it caused a big mess but if he bathed it was a good thing, another was put him directly on our arms and direct a shower head, turned on low, right over him, when he got useto the water, he was usually fine with it, but before we got him to the shelter lary had never gotten baths.

The layer of scum that came off him the first 3 weeks was revolting and we were detirmned that even if he didnt like it, he was going to get them. He did forgive us, mostly because he got to have his "McDonalds" french fry after, he could have eaten more, but we were worried about the salt and fat content, and he hated anything that wasent McD's so we couldent switch to something healthyer for him.
