[FONT=&quot]Anyone have a bird that is/was a true rescue...not just a re-home story, birds that have been taken from dangerous, life threatening situations?[/FONT]

Here's a light one.....from a friend back in November.....


[FONT=&quot]My daughter was working third shift & gets home after midnight and this week the temperatures have been nippy, in the 30s when she gets home. Well, the other night she pulls in & noticed a cage by one of the dumpsters, but didn't think much of it, until she saw something move it it and walked that way, to see what was in it. Somebody had left a parakeet out there. Only thing in the cage was the perch, no food or water, so she brought the cage in & woke me up because we have other birds & she was thinking about disease, gave it some water & went to bed.

[FONT=&quot]When I got up at 11 am (I enjoy my pillow cuddling time), I went to check on him. She had fed and watered him and put clean paper in his cage. He was busy chirping away. I checked him over and he appeared healthy. I set him up in the dining room with a sheet/towel over most of the cage to somewhat isolate him. (I had determined by then he was a he.)[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Later that day I made an appointment with the vet as I had noticed some tail bobbing. On Monday he went to the vet and was found to have a mild form of air saculitis. His gram stains were fine. His air saculitis was probably caused by exposure to gas fumes in the parking lot. He would have died had my daughter not rescued him.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Daughter had named him Manchester because he responded to it, but I had trouble getting all of that out, just to talk to him, so the vet changed his name to Manny.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]The next checkup was all clear and he was given a clean bill of health. Manny has a companion now whose name is Skipper. He seems to love it here in the dining room, has adapted to the chaos, and chirps and sings to us all day long.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]I do not regret my daughter’s actions one bit, though she did post notices around her apartment complex about the found bird, but nobody responded.[/FONT]

I have a sad one, its not mine though but it happened here.
On New Years eve there was a couple going door to door to sell there BFA, the bird looked in terrible shape.They were looking for money to go party with. A lady bought the poor thing for $300.00 because she couldn't leave the bird with these people.
Now she didn't want an amazon, she has small birds so she contacted the local rescue and signed the bird over. When taken to the vet the bird has a Broken wing, will never fly again, respiratory infection, overgrown beak and nails.
He has been treated now and is up for adoption.

Also the rescue participated in a pet expo this year, it was quite large with many organizations including SPCA running educational sessions.
Some one left a quaker in the parking lot

Kiwi and Cookie were eating wild bird seed when I rescued them. Luckily Kiwi was mostly healthy when he went to the vet just a little underweight and his poor nutrition could be seen in his feathers, nails, and beak. He also had the midst awful clip ever. However, Cookie had not faired so well. She was an angel and would let me pretty and touch her all over. I could tell one of her wings didn't look right so I investigated. It didn't take me long to see a huge sore under her wing. She took an emergency appointment at the vet that Monday after we got her. At the vet we were told her wing had been broken and not healed appropriately, she also had apparently torn her wing web which was healed at this point. However, the pain from this injury and the arthritis that followed caused the angel to pick. Thank God the sore wasn't infected. She didn't have good liver results. She was also extremely underweight for her size She has gained 40 grams. I don't know how two of her toenails went missing but they are. She of course want in very good feather. She had two tail feathers when I got her the rest were broken. Get first feathers that tried to come in when she arrived all broke. However, since her dirty change she is starting to get strong feathers that are staying. She also had much better test results recently.

Congratulations.....

When I took Tomi Girl in, she was 46% or more underweight, a 'chronic egg layer' (laying abnormally shaped eggs) and very weak. (to say that what she came out of was disgusting is putting it mildly)

This cage pictured was about 3x bigger than the previous one she was put in.



As I said, she laid eggs



And she was weak



And thin....








She has since filled out quite nicely and has regained her strength







She's also not an egg layer and certainly not the same bird I took in originally! She's much happier and healthier!
