Fireworks

Well, I'd like to say its that time of year, but in my neighborhood the fireworks start around mid-may and end sometime in August. And during this week, they go on until about 2am. I guess it's better than where I grew up (Detroit) where it was usually gunfire all night, tons of it. There's really nothing I can do about it, the budgies seem to be used to it, but Nika doesn't like it at all. Short of putting earmuffs on her

I don't know what to do. I guess in time shell figure out its summer in my neighborhood.

Hi Kali,

Depending on how Nika tolerates white noise, I would leave a fan running on high in the same room. It will help muffle some of the fireworks noise. You can also close the windows to block some of the sound off.

Thanks boom, I forgot all about using a fan, I'll give it a shot tonite. Truthfully, I bought a few rocket launchers myself this year....when in Rome I guess.

yea I use a loud fan and when we do our fireworks we do it as far away from the birdroom as possible! Everyone is already starting them now.

Turn on the radio or tv! That will help tremendously!!! Not looking forwards to it cause two of my dogs are terrified of fireworks and will NOT go outside....

i have always been a terribly light sleeper and i have an arsenal of white noise machines. (it's serious!) my one dog is terrified of fireworks and he was calm over the weekend when i had my 2 white noise machines and 2 fans going. (yeah, i'm weird that way, i admit it. i swear someone could whisper down the street and i would hear it and wake up....so....whatever works for a good night's sleep for all!)

I have an aquarium in Frankie's room, and the constant trickle of water and the buzz of the air pump seems to act as white noise. She's seemed calmer since I put it in there, and actually really likes watching the fish too. I put one in my bedroom a long time ago for the same reason, and I've noticed that the constant sound helps me to sleep better. I don't notice outside noises nearly as much. I live fairly close to a railroad, and barely notice when a train is going by anymore when I'm in the rooms with aquariums.

Hmmmm....I don't have an aquarium anymore, but I do have some of those koi pond apps on my iPad, maybe I'll try that as well.

Yep, I have the same problem. Marley dropped to the bottom of the cage last night out of fright of the sudden sound of someone shooting fire works close to my house.
It's everywhere but much more in a distance than yesterday right now, and she is not reacting as bad. I can tell she is not comfortable with these sounds.
I'll try to keep her in the cage tomorrow night.

My dog is already heading for cover. I honestly do not know how my bird will act. He can not see the fireworks and he will be in his cage.

As said, you can turn on a TV or a Radio, play music, until at least the fireworks are over and they can go back sleeping.
Mango gets immobilized when someone on the streets make loud noises with his car or motorcycle. I wonder what will happen on New Year with him!
