Textbook example of bad behaviour

Alice - Galah cockatoo
Picture, if you will, a pleasant, quiet evening. The bird is perched on your knee contentedly preening while you watch the news headlines, and it seems the perfect opportunity to have a browse through that new book you just bought on how to discourage bad behavior in parrots.

Within 30 seconds, said bird has spotted the receipt poking out the top for the book, and within 60 the couch is covered in flakes of paper.

Definition of irony?

Look on the bright side-- your parrot could have demolished the book instead of the receipt. :D

She's actually very respectful of musical instruments, possibly because she's distrustful of the fact they periodically make strange sounds that she doesn't really understand. Sometimes if I'm playing the guitar or piano she'll come over and make a very tentative attempt at touching it with her beak, but only if I'm there for moral support so I'm pretty confident having her out around them. Computers, now that's a different story...

Years ago... my daughter was still in grade school at the time...

She was sitting next to the big play stand PRETENDING to do her homework.

What she was really doing was playing with the macaw. Sweepea fainted for her fingers (she was in beak wrestling mode) reach down, and snagged her math homework, and shreded it...

"A BIRD ATE MY HOMEWORK!"

We had to explain to the teacher that yes, in fact, a great big bird did eat my daughter's homework...
