I love it when I ask a question ... THEN ... research until I find an answer.
In the Amazon Room, I asked about Skittle's change in feather lose. Then I did a search for "Molting in Parrots" and for the link to a long article on feathering and molting aimed primarily at parrots. (Although the author, a Dr. Ron Hines DVM, PHD, admits he doesn't have much experience with cockatoos.)

I enjoyed reading it. Here's the link: All About Your Parrot's Feathers - The Causes Of Molt, Feather Problems And What You Can Do About Them

Found that last month when researching molting, very useful article on the subject.

It seems molting is one of the most difficult things for first time owners to get our heads around. I've lost more sleep over Alice's feather loss than I care to think about, and all the signs are she's doing fine.

Our parrots aren't the only ones molting, I found a primary feather from one of our local Red Tailed Hawks in my yard a week or so ago.

Some of the most amazing "inventions" ... feathers, hair, fingernails, skin ...

I've been doing a little molting myself ... mostly around the temples. But, when it does grow back it tends to change locations (ears, nose, back... EWWWW!)
