Birdbrain: Man Arrested For Throwing Parrot In Face Of Pursuing Police Officer

While being chased by a cop, a Connecticut man allegedly threw a parrot at his uniformed pursuer, who was bit on the hand when

trying to shield himself from the feathered projectile.
Luis Santana, 32, was arrested Tuesday night on several charges, including assaulting a police officer, disorderly conduct, and animal cruelty.
A patrolman responding to a call about a fight encountered Santana on a Waterbury street around 10 PM. When Santana bolted, bird in hand, Officer Gary Kichar gave chase.
While fleeing, Santana turned and threw the white parrot at Kichar’s head. When the cop raised his hand to protect himself, the bird bit his finger.
Kichar was treated at the scene for the bird bite.

The parrot was initially turned over to animal control officials.
Santana was apprehended while hiding in a nearby building. Free on bond, he is scheduled for a November 18 court appearance.
Following the bird tossing, investigators learned of a burglary Tuesday evening during which jewelry and a parrot were stolen. Santana is a suspect in that crime, according to Deputy Chief Chris Corbett of the Waterbury Police Department. Corbett added that the parrot was later reunited with its owner.

That poor bird. I know this man must be either crazy or on something (or both) but it makes me sick to think of anyone stealing and subsequently being cruel to someone's beloved animal!!

I will never understand how someone can hurt or endanger an animal or child. Poor sweet bird.

If only the bird took a bite out of the guy. We could say he took a bite out of crime. Lol

Hope the bird is ok though.

That's just crazy things people do now days. I've read stories where people break in someone's home and try to steal their parrots only to have the parrots bite the heck out of them, when the owners returned home there was blood everywhere and they called their birds and they were hiding in the garage, they came out and greeted their owners unhurt so it was the burglars blood....lol

THAT WAS IN FLORIDA... And it was a pair of GREENWING MACAWS if I recall correctly...

THEY DIDN'T GO QUIETLY! (In fact, they didn't go at all!)

There was another home invasion robbery attempt that was thwarted when the guy's GREENWING bit the crap out of the burglar's face.

YOU JUST DON'T MESS WITH A GREENWING'S PERSON!

That is just terrible! Glad the bird was returned to it's owner. They must have been so relieved to get him/her back!

OMG..I cannot imagine throwing Valentino at a person. Okay I throw him up in the air all the time as it is so fun to watch him get his bearings and fly. I throw him like a ball around the house all the time and he squeals in delight.

For me Valentino is more than a handful. I don't think he would appreciate being thrown at someone. He would just gab the eye anyway. LOL

Heh...Valentino has the taste for human eye. When you see a pirate with an eye patch they had a RFM as their parrot companion. RFM's LOVE human eyeballs!
