Hey guys and gals,
Went up to Lamington National Park today to do some parrot photography. Here are a few of the images that I thought I would share. Hope they show up properly?

I did a bit of a write up of the trip and put up a few other pics at Parrots of O'Reilly's | rosella | King parrot | The Witty Parrot

Edit: Finally figured it out. I wasn't using the image tags.

Gee, they're terrific photos, Daniel! I love the Crimson Rosella in flight (top shot!) and the Currawong (he looks positively wicked, don't you think?) Two questions I have: what's the snake? Diamond Python? (can't tell from the pattern) and what's the honeyeater? Lewin's? Thanks for posting. I don't get to go birding as often as I should and it's nice to be able to see other people's pics. :)

Gorgeous photos! You should blow up that second one and put it on your wall!

Thank you everyone for the kind words :)

Hi Betrisher. The snake is a coastal carpet python. They are the same species as diamond pythons (Morelia spilota) but are a different subspecies (Morelia spilota mcdowelli as opposed to Morelia spilota spilota) his colour is off as he is in pre-shed (oil layer between new and old skin that gives it a blue tinge, especially on the eyes). The honeyeater is indeed a Lewin's :) Nicely spotted!

Fantastic photos Dan. Especially the one of the rosella in flight.

You must be on the far southern edge of Brisbane to be able to get there in that time though. (Was just reading your blog post about how long it takes you to get to O'Reilley's). You must live not that far from me - I'm on Mt Tamborine.

Oh thanks Kim for reading! :) I am at the southern edge of Greenbank near Mt Lindesay Hway so not far at all! Time was just an estimate but google tells me 1:26 so guess my 1.5hr estimate was pretty close :) My time to the edge of lamington is off though now that I see the map. I will amend that :)

I am up Mt Tamborine at least once a week helping with documentary filming :) Basically a pack mule and identification source for Peter Kuttner of A video artwork documenting the extraordinary biodiversity of Tamborine Mountain in Queensland, Australia.
You may know of him? It is a small world! Where abouts on the mountain are you?

I hadn't heard of Peter but his work sounds fantastic. I've been wanting to learn to identify more stuff around here, and to have something so specific is just amazing.

I'm at Eagle Heights too - we could be neighbours :)

How does he find the stuff to film/photograph? I stumbled onto a stinging tree a while ago if that is helpful. I had never seen one before I managed to get stung by it.

Awesome shots! The snake appears to have eye caps. Getting ready to shed his skin maybe?

How neat to be able to see birds in their native habitat.

Striking photos, thanks for sharing. The snake looked like it was going to go through a shed. It's eyes looked milky.
