How many of you have lost your remote to your bird?

Today I was watching TV and Sammie was with me. I was paying attention to the TV and not her. I thought she was chewing on some cardboard I had given her. The show ended and I discovered she had removed the buttons from my remote. EBay here I come....

I learned early on that remotes need to be left face down to keep temptation to a minimum, but I still have several buttons with little chips out of them. Meanwhile my brand new work computer is already missing a cursor key after she damaged it trying to rip it off ("I don't understand! The keys on the other computer come right off in my beak, then we get to play that fun game where I run off with it and you pretend to be annoyed and chase me round the room").

I don't understand how she runs away in fear whenever presented with a succession of foot toys specifically designed for the purpose of being chewed by bored birds, where as things like tv remotes, computers and books she marches straight up to and gets stuck in.

<Raises hand> Yup, I'm ashamed to admit that my Sam (how coincidental is THAT one ;)) is a remote muncher. He actively looks for it when he's out and about, as well as any glasses I leave laying around and open keyboards. :54: He is constantly into mischief.

I tell you, the husband was all BUT happy when he saw the remote after Sam was done with it. :52:

ha ha, you should see ours!....all the buttons are totally chewed off, and I have to either hide it away from them, or turn it upside down.

Someone needs to make and sell toy remotes and cellphones just for parrots, but instead of plastic it would be made from wood...like an exact replica. I had to take the foam padding out of my iPad case because he found a way to get at it. And he now knows exactly what a screen cover is and how to remove it.:D

I tried flipping the remote upside down. Sammie showed me how fast she could turn it over. I would love a parrot toy that was a remote/keyboard and glasses. The brat tries to chew the ear pieces off my glasses if I don't pay attention and I can't see without them.

I don't have a single pair that isn't missing at least one nose pad, not to mention isn't chewed up on the ear pieces. I can't keep them on my face when I snuggle with Sam because he surgically removes them instantly. Luckily I "only" need them for reading, but it's no fun wearing glasses that either hurt your nose, your ear, or BOTH. :30:

I haven't yet lost a remote, but only because she hasn't met one yet. I've had my laptop and other computer keyboard attacked by her (she also attacks ME if she sees me typing, I need to find out how to get her to let me "do stuff" and let her hang around with me at the same time)

ha ha, yes!!, Safari use to do that too, they are too quick. My conures, lovebirds & cockatiels don't pay any attention to it while it's flipped over, and that's a good thing! LOL

Yep, pretty much all my remotes have at least one button chewed. They're left face down now, I was irate to find my then-new AV amplifier remote with several chewed buttons. Alex the eccy is the worst, and he's the only one that'll turn them over (and pick them up, throw them off the lounge, then peer at the item on the ground, with head cocked). My wife and I both wear glasses for reading, Alex will remove them and throw them away. We've both tried "glasses strings" with variable success- nearly all the birds love to chew the woven string, the metal ferrule and especially the rubbery connector loop which goes around the glasses arm. They will even crew the softish plastic part of the glasses- I've had to repair mine with black heat-shrink tubing used in electrical wiring. We buy the strings in bulk from UK....

As an avid reader and university student (for fun & interest) I have to be especially careful with books. I had to purchase one local public library book because Alex the eccy put some large V-shaped punctures through the cover. Textbooks can be hellishly expensive, too, although mine, I do like to keep my own books in reasonable shape (without serrated edges :)).

I gave Pritti a remote that is made for kids. He has a great time it. It has songs, words, lights up, colorful, durable. Am impressed with durability. It has withstood his sharp beak and being flung down to the slate floor many times. In fact it looks as good as the day we got it before the summer. Battery cover is secured by a screw. It cracks me up when I'm in the next room and I randomly hear the different songs and stuff.

Whoever does this will be rich!

Boomer leaves the tv remote control alone but has a thing for the windows key on my keyboard. My keyboard has 2 windows keys (the one with the window logo) and Boomer just always tries to remove either of the two for some reason!

I think I am buying this! Does Pritti try to pry off the buttons?

Oh! The relief! I thought it was only my birds who were so destructive!

Let's see, now. They started on the remotes, really early - my husband was fuming because I was more concerned about them swallowing the rubber buttons than I was about preserving his precious remote control device. LOL! I don't watch TV: doesn't worry me! After that, they discovered my glasses and the side combs I use in my hair. The glasses have had the earpieces totally pecked off and the nose pads are decidedly Beak-eaten as well. Darned uncomfortable, I must say! The side combs have alternate teeth chewed off them and barely hold my hair in place. What am I saying? My hair is all chomped and chewed by the Beaks, who love to preen it and barber it for me. Recently, they discovered my new ponytail holder, which has an artful little bead on it to hold the join. Yep! Munchity-crunchity! Happy birdies! Unhappy Trishie!

What else? Oh dear Lord, every cable, wire and cord in the house has been severed at least once. They ate the broadband cables and the phone cord and even the cable that leads from the doorbell to its speaker in the kitchen. They ate power cable to the TV (thank God it was switched off at the time!) and have had a go at the cord to my bedlamp.

I would like to point out that I do try my very best to cover, conceal and camouflage all of the abovementioned items. But the little buggers are darned tenacious! For example, if you catch one of them chomping on the remote and go to take it from them, they latch on like a bull terrier (and I know how that works, 'cause I've got one). I wind up waving a remote around with a fluttering, squawking green bird demon stuck to it!

Oh, and I left out all the soft furnishings, didn't I? The piping on the easy chairs, the armrests on the computer chairs, the backs of the kitchen chairs: nothing is safe from them! I provide good quality wood, plastic and paper chew toys! I honestly do! But no-ooo-oo... those Beaks gotta chomp me and mine every single day!

PS. Have I told you lately how very, very much I love them? Barney has begun snuggling underneath my chin and I never thought he'd ever do that. Madgie will even let me pat her pretty head (for a piece of peanut). Sigh... So gorgeous! So green!

Wow - only having smaller species I didn't realize parrots would go after remotes - that doesn't mean I haven't suffered the tragic loss of remotes (oh the pain - oh the cost!) - as I did have a dog that had a remote control fetish and would chew them to pieces.
