As some of you know I am close friends with a couple falconers. A few days ago a male red tailed hawk attacked one of their male saker falcons, who was weathering in the backyard SURROUNDED by 10+ raptors. They rarely have to worry about wild raptors, what bird would be stupid enough to fly into what looks like a lions den.

My friend was inside, when he suddenly heard his birds all freaking out and screaming. Poor Hugh(the attacked saker) was saved, but it seems he may have been blinded in one eye. It's heart breaking, if he is blind he can no longer free fly, something he LOVES to do. He also would no longer be used for abatement.

Send good thoughts his ways that his eye recovers, he's on meds right now to fight off any secondary infections from his wounds and we should have a answer in a few weeks.

Please be careful having parrots outside on a perch

Sad to hear, and not what you'd expect, one raptor attacking another. We get goshawks around here (like a falcon but with long legs) and they really freak the birds out, to the extent that I worry about birds injuring themselves on aviary wire etc. One was so persistent, hanging around the aviary that I gt within 10m and saturated it before it departed. The idea of having a parrot on a lead turns my knees to jelly- hawks and other raptors are so quick.

Oh! That's so sad! Hoping and praying he will see again! And if not I hope he has a good recovery!

I always keep a eye on the sky's when I fly Caesar even though he is tethered . I live in Brisbane Australia and we have a lot of crows and ravens up here and I tend to think where the scavengers are you get your premium predatory birds.
We have a lot of gum forests here and one of the most common bird of prey is your Australian Hobby Hawk and they r hard to see as they r a smaller bird .Than you have your Wedge-Tailed eagle Australia's largest Eagle.
