I know thew topic has been raised before but I'm doing so again in the hopes that there will be some new remedy mentioned.

I am vigilant about removing fresh foods as soon as Percy's done eating. I change his cage liner at least twice a day but sometimes three times a day. Now that I'm on leave I also wipe up fresh poop throughout the day with a cloth rinsed in hot water. I feel I'm doing everything to limit attracting a gnat. However, Percy still has them visiting all the time. He has now become somewhat wary of them and refuses to go into his cage until I've shown him that I've shoo'd them all away. He just freezes, pulls his feathers in tight, cocks his head and stares at them :(

Any tips? Please?

I had some fruit gnats last summer while we were on an RV trip. All I could do was kill what I could and keep things clean.

I did see Silus take care of a few of them when they bothered him.

See if there is something you can do to stop the intrusion, then the problem will be easier to remedy. Check all your windows and doors for good seals and make sure anything in the house that might attract them is in a sealed container.

Pesky little buggers!!!

I don't know what these gnats are, so I guess we don't have them here where I live. I mean I know those awful seed moths, and I've seen the occassional fruit fly, but those gnats seem to be a big problem for a lot of people. In summer we do have 'clouds' of gnats outside, but they have never come inside in my whole life.

I did find a home remedy that you might give a try - I have no personal experience with it but the pictures seem compelling:

Don't laugh now but ....I trapped TWO gnats today using the trap described in Gary's link! Yeah, two seems insignificant but considering they previously just snickered at me and flew off, I'm counting it as a win! I'm sure by tomorrow, I will have more trapped (when the banana bait starts to go off...eeew!)

Last summer I did this. I put vinegar in a glass bottle and wrapped some of that fly trap paper around the top of the bottle. Vinegar attracts gnats, so some of them went inside the bottle and drowned and the others came to the bottle to check it out and got stuck in the fly trap. Also put a little bit of banana in the bottle because Gnats are attracted to banana too. It worked really really good. It was a nasty sight, though.. :18_crazy:

Make sure it's somewhere where your bird won't be able to get stuck in the fly trap on accident though. That wouldn't be good o_O

Anyway, you should try it!! It ridded my house of 'em all!
