For some reason it became a "Save Them All!" kind of day. We go consignment shopping every weekend and we needed to swing by the bird store for food.
They have this blue throat in a rehome situation (which is odd for this store because they dont rehome, only breeder resell). He is a 4yr old blue throat and just the most awesome macaw I've ever encountered. They are asking a bit much for him, but still cheaper than buying a baby. This was a definite instant connect with this bird and I, but I just cant do the price right now. Very frustrating. He wouldnt step up, but he would take nuts from my fingers outside of the cage. He never showed an ounce of fear or aggression, only fun and curiosity. I had 100% confidence with him, no fear at all. It was so fun!

After more running around, we went to a big box pet store to kill some time. I always feel bad for their birds because they have no idea what they're doing with them. They have a 6mo old Hahns macaw that is literally eating the drywall next to his cage because he is so bored. They clipped his wings with scissors by cutting the bottom 1/2 of his flight feathers. I spent 15 minutes with him and had him on his back begging for scratches. He has no idea how to step up, I tried to teach him. This young girl that works there comes over to him and brings both of her hands on either side of him to pick him up like a dog! He of course freaks, and just goes into sensory overload and locks up (because he's only 6mo). I guess that's how he's been taught to step up..... Also, he's eating pellets out of the litter he poops in because his bowl was almost empty.
I said screw it, I'm going to adopt him, then I asked the price. They want $2000 for him. I almost laughed in her face. He's going to sit awhile :( I feel bad for him. I'm going to keep an eye on him and see if I can get him for a reasonable price.

That's a red front. The price sounds about right for a pet shop really.....He's very cute though.....
