Hi everyone,Im back.I got a hahns macaw last week.My Amazon is very very angry with me because of this.He has been the only parrot for a while,but now hes biting very hard which he never did before and actually attacking me for no reason.Im still showing him all the love I did before and more.We always have 1 to 1 for at least a couple of hours a day but he wont do it now.He used to be out of the cage all day too but now the new is here,I let him out every 2 hours.Any advice???

My new hahns is only 15 weeks old.An Amazon can kill or maim a small bird like a hahns.Thats why Ive decided to let them out seperatly every 2 hours.At night Skip,my amazon has an extra hour after Ive covered Millies,the hahns, cage up.I know it will take a while to get him used to the new routine but just wanted to know how to deal with his anger.

His feelings are hurt. I would recommend starting right back at then beginning with him as of a new aggressive bird has just come into your home. Set him up on meals throughout the day, before each meal have your bonding time with him- which is a training sessions for now- starting with clicker training though the cage, if he knows a clicker- start with targeting. Remember to only use his favorite treats for training, so that they're special for your time. Give him a few days, weeks, or even months- and your bird should come around and even back to his normal self.

Thank you Jen.Hes been the "man"of the house since I got him last august and we bonded almost straight away.He also came from a home where he was an only bird too.Hes still coming out of his cage and doing everything as usual,its just the contact issue that is a problem.

Has he flown over to attack the baby? My macaws and cockatoos can kill my cockatiels but I keep them all on separate play stands away from each other so they can be out and play at the same time. I can alsolove aand play with 1 while the others stay on their stands. Have you tried having them both out on separate play stands away from each other? You have to stay near 1 at a time to monitor the situation, play, and talk to them. This is how I've done it every time I brought home a new bird and I've never had any problems. Some were babies (1 still is) and others were rescues.

This should help with some or most of the anger, aggression, and jealousy because of this bird he is now hardly out of his cage (compared to before) along with your attention. I'm not criticizing you in any way, just trying to help.

oops, thats bad. well all day out to 2 hours is an extremely drastic change for your fid. no matter how much love you show him, to him, he is unwanted suddenly, and is forced to be in his cage. i think you should gradually lower his time out. as your your new fid, keep him as far away as you can, possibly in different rooms, so they wont know there is another bird out there. different kinds of brids dont go together, and bot out at the same time together will end up horribly for the smaller guy

I meant he gets out every 2 hours.Same with the new hahns.1 goes back in after 2 hours and the other 1 comes out for 2.I do this all day with them.1 in and the other out.Its not 2 hours in total hes out.I wouldnt do that 2 any of them.

oh, then. thats okay. well for now all you can do is keep themfar away from each other. im hoping your amazon will forget there was another bird around, be back to normal
