Pet store with many naked parrots.

Today I stopped by this petstore that I visited about two months ago. At the time, I noticed a small African Grey with plucked feather and shivering from the cold in the front of the store. In the back of the store, I saw a beautiful large female Electus parrot.

Today I stopped by and noticed the Africian Grey's feather were starting to come back but still had a lot of bald spots. The beautiful Electus was not practically featherless (except the head area of course). They also had a Conure who look like he/she's started to nip at its feathers.

I understand feather plucking is an neurotic disorder with parrots that results from stress? So, is it safe to assume this pet store takes really poor care of their parrots? The parakeets, lovebirds, and smaller bird seem to be doing okay. So, I maybe make a call to Animal Control or the ASPCA?

I really don't know, it sure does seem like there is something wrong there...

You should definitely consider calling the ASPCA.

From what I've read, there are very few (if any) good reasons for a parrot to be bald. They can look a little scraggly during a hard molt, but still not bald. Most reports to ASPCA or animal control are anonymous. So what can it hurt? If it turns out to be nothing serious, then all's well, but what if these poor birds are being abused and neglected?

Totally agreed, the molting stage was pretty hard on my boys. Pineapple lost a full crest of feathers!

Let's hope that it's nothing serious.

If those birds where sheep, it would be like shaving off all the wool below the neck while above the neck if perfectly fine. I think I'll give the ASPCA a call. They have a few dogs in a pen there too.

Okay. I filed a report. In best case scenario, they'll inspect and it's no issue. Worst case, the shop will be fined and birds will be taken care of. Thanks.

Well done you have done us all proud.

Go into the post DISGUSTING FOR A PET SHOP, had a big problem with them as well.
Luckily no drastic stops had to be taken.
I popped to see them this morning, happy to say they have kept their end of the bargain, the birds are happy, well fed, and the cages are immaculately clean.

We have to speak up for our feathered friends that can't speak for themselves.
