Quick question... anyone have experience with freezing Nutriberries? I just purchased a 20 lb box from the shelter and its a crapload of nutriberries!! Joked I had never seen a ziploc baggie that big!

Was thinking of freezing some, even with 10 birds, they are a treat, so keeping them fresh / safe is a concern.

Thanks for any thoughts or experience sharing!!

another thought... we have a vacuum sealer, think that would be safer? Or vacuum seal then freeze?

I just did a quick web search and Lafebers says its safe to freeze. I would think vacuum sealing and freezing is even better.

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Silly question, but what does a 20 lb box of nutriberries cost?

I go through about a tub a month...

It was on their site in questions and answers. The question was about killing seed moths but it clearly stated it was ok to freeze.:)

My nutriberries go into the freezer first thing when I bring them home. Kills any potential moth larva.

Birdman, sorry missed your question...

I purchased the box from the shelter and it was much less then what I've seen it listed for on sites. eBay has the box for about $100.

Update - don't put nutriberries thru a vacuum sealer, you get a big stuck together glob of nutriberries!!!

Thought I'd share in case anyone else had the brilliant idea I did! :)
