There are two methods: Keeping a male of one species in somewhat close confinement with a female of another. Or, they just keep an aviary and let the parrots decide themsleves. The second one is the kinder way to do it (in my opinion).

Even though I don't support hybridisation, I think the Galatiel is really cute.

The galatiel doesn't even look real! And the emerald is amazing looking....however...

There are reasons some species don't inter-breed in the wild. Take lion/tiger hybrids - incredible health issues including giantism and dwarfism. Again, just because one can do something; doesn't mean it should be done.

I think it is only wrong if you purposely hybridise parrots. The galatiel is real all right, that photo has been meddled with. I have come across a hybrid rosella in the wild, fully grown. If you hybridised on purpose eventually the original species would become extinct. They are quite pretty, though.

Yes Ratzy, you're right. The parrots themselves know if they're compatible, and we humans have no need to interfere.
