Flight suits

Anyone have experience with them? I just ordered one for my galah.

I have an Aviator for her, and she does okay with it, but it's not very convenient to take her places to socialize when she's pooping all over me and everything else.

I guess my main concern with it is that the leash is only held on with velcro. Is that really secure?? I just had a really scary experience with her flying away, and even though I got her back by a series of miracles, the memory will haunt me forever. Are there ways to make the leash extra secure? Also, are there any good guides for training/conditioning a bird to accept the flight suit?

Hi, good to see you again I think if she accepts the Aviator, she'd have no problem with the flight suit.

No offense meant to anyone, but I've always thought the flight suits looked a little embarrassing (like bird clothes hehe) though I'm getting used to it .

What would actually be WAY MORE embarrassing is bird poop all over your clothes, and if in an indoor public place... on the floor, tables, chairs, etc grossing everyone out lol

I've heard of a bird once, who would refuse to poop in the suit. The owner had to remove it periodically so he wouldn't be holding it for hours. I wonder if that's rare? I do think it's a good idea though for public.

I have just begun using the flight suit, but I still feel the aviator is much safer. I will be using only the aviator on my larger birds (and I count even my IRNs as "larger" in this case, especially since mine are both expert fliers who have never been clipped). I like not being covered in poop though! My main outing companion is a GCC, and I feel that the suit is secure on her, but anything bigger would make me nervous, even though I have never heard of a bird getting out of one. I have a friend who uses both on her Eclectus simultaneously. I am not suggesting this because I am not sure of the safety of it, but it might be something to look into. If you do it, I would recommend putting the Aviator underneath, and making sure the leash exits the back of the flight suit so that your bird isnt flipped onto his back if she tries to fly off. That way you may be able to get the safety of the Aviator with the convenience of the flight suit.
