Although I'm very happy that Raven and Griffin are starting a friendship, it also leads to some concerns.
When they preen each other, someone always inevitably preens too hard and it becomes a little argument every now and then. I've seen them get into some crazy positions to preen each other's thighs and feet at times too which I think is strange. I've never seen birds do that :52:. Griffin bites Raven's feet too hard and the argument ensues lol. I know any bonded pair or birdie BFF's argue from time to time, but I never worried when they were near the same size.
I'm hoping some of you can shed some light on this, as I'm still apprehensive about Griffin "accidentally" getting a leg broken or neck
snapped by Raven because of the size difference. Even when later down the road they become bonded best buddies, is this amount of size difference something to forever be concerned about or not? Griffin the Ruppell's parrot is only about 115g vs Raven BWP at 220g.
Do you think that Raven just naturally has the 'sense' that animals have with each other to know just how far to go not to hurt the other?
I'd love to hear from anyone who would like to give their input on this. This is the first time I've had birds of such a size difference become friends. Do you think that's a big difference, or not as big of a deal as say a Green Cheek and a larger Amazon? Or is THAT even okay if they are truly bonded friends?
I really wonder at what point the size difference is so great that they just can't judge what is accidentally too hard. Anyone have experience with that? Maybe only the birds know that one for sure.
