Ever heard of this site? They sell (among other things) natural stone perches and corner stones. I just got my order in and am pleasantly surprised. I didn't think it would be so well shaped. I got a 3 mount corner stone...3x, which would be about 9 inches.

I was just looking at their site because they have SS toy hangers that mount on a cage.. and I really like them because they save so much more space than my floor hanger. Kinda pricey IMO but I guess you get what you pay for, as far as quality goes. :)

No, not cheap. That stone was 45.00 after shipping. They have less expensive ones...smaller corners, and stone perches, but I wanted a whole stone platform. It's very rough, and perfect for beak and nail sanding. :)

That's really cool. I never thought of using a stone perch/platform. :)

I've been spending so much time looking for toy parts and making my own stuff I forgot that "expensive" is normal when it comes to bird things LOL.

Cool beans! I can imagine this product would be good for handicapped birds who need a different type of footing to perch.

That is awesome! Is it a real rock? Is that large enough to hold a amazon, or do they make a large size? My mom's amazon loves playing with rocks (so does Kiwi, but he already has a cage platform) and I bet she would love something like that in her cage! We've always given the parrots rounded, egg-sized (well sterilized) river rocks to play with, but I never thought of making a platform!

Has your bird been interested in it yet?

Let me know how that works! My husband works with stone as part of his business and he could totally make one of those for me. (being married to a contractor is handy!)

HEY! Haha, my dad says "cool beans"! I just felt a little bit more at home here! I LOVE this idea for special needs birds! Also I think I might get one for Cache - she never chews, we are working to help her overcome so many things, like the fact her previous owners say she "never chews" and they trimmed her beak every 6 weeks from the start :p

Yup it's real rock, flagstone I believe...so you have 2 sides to choose from as the upper part...I chose the very rough side as the side-up. Or the lower, which is smoother. Very heavy, very well-made and sturdy. As I said, they also make perches, as well as corner shelves. Average price is from 16.00 and up...they do make very large sizes as well, for amazons and above. I chose the 9" inch size corner for my conure....,there's no way he can play or stand on this thing without his nails being blunted. And he loves to rub his beak on rough surfaces. Just put it him in to his cage for bed...he went to it and ate a pine nut on it, but he'll really explore it when I take him (cage and all) outside. It has increased the weight of the cage considerably, but no problem. :)
@phlox..yup if you a have a stone that can be used, then I'm sure it could be done...just needs the screw, washers, and screw top :)
I already love it!

It's PERFECT for special needs birds!!:) it just BEGS the bird to rub his beak on it, and scratch against it. :)

Definitely something to keep in mind around the holidays;) My parents birds and Kiwi all have rocks to play with (that sounds terrible lol, "and what do you give your birds to play with?"... "ROCKS" lololol ). They will rub their beaks on them and kind of "gnaw" at them (though a beak can't do much to a rock, probably one of the only things they can't destroy;)). It's almost instinctual and they work really well for beaks. I'm sure a platform large enough to stand on will help nails:) Very cool product and probably a great DIY project with those who have the tools to saw and drill rocks.

One of my favourite online stores here in Canada actually sells those rocks, too. I was wondering whether or not they'd be in a good investment, but you just convinced me!

I love it! Only thing is what if you have a bird who likes to poop where he sits? Looks hard to clean unless you soak it. Not saying anything bad, again, I LOVE it! Looks nice and would be a good idea for nails and beak I'd think. Hang a couple toys around it?

I have several of these perches that I got at a bird show that BOTR was at. If I had room at the time I would have gotten one of his gorgeous playstands. My cockatiels (one who is disabled) love these perches. The other birds occasionally use them.

RavensGryf, I have to admit keeping them clean is a pain, especially with tiels who poop a lot! I routinely scrub them with a scrub brush while in the cage and take them out for deep cleaning every few weeks.

YEARS AGO, I used to make perch swings out of flagstones. IT'S SIMPLE.
You just drill holes in four corners, and run an equal length of sisal rope through them. Hang them with C links. It's like a shelf swing...

Takes about maybe five minutes to make. You just have to use the right drill bit, and be careful not to crack it.

I actually did try it last year with a long, perch-like stone, but it shattered.

It's concrete. They make it in a mold, and they put screws in the mold, so that the screws are actually formed inside the concrete, and you can just bolt them on.

It's the molds that cost the bucks. But I suppose you could make your own forms out of 2x4's, drill holes in the sides, and shove the bolts in there, and then custom make it to the dimension of your cage. Sounds like a lot of work though. I think I'll stick to just drilling four holes in flagstones, and tying off a rope...
