My birds: Skyler/Sky, violet Indian Ringneck. Mother's birds: Norman, African Grey and Mildred, Blue Crowned Conure.
We (my mother and me) went for a walk to a graveyard with Damien and Merle yesterday.
It went great. Both of them were very calm and enjoyed being out. They looked great in the sunshine.

I sadly didn't take my camera with me, so there isn't any photos. I will bring it next time though.

It was Damien's first time being outside and he was very calm about it. Nothing scared him. It was Merle's second time being outside (and he had already been for a walk to the same place before), he screamed a few times and he wasn't as calm as Damien, but overall, he enjoyed being out too. He sat on my mother's shoulder pretty much all the time we were there.

Merle wore his Aviator harness and Damien's wings are clipped (and I know birds often can still fly while clipped, but he really can't seem to fly well at all and I decided to take the risk. I held his feet most of the time too).

We met a few people and let them pet both birds and take a couple photos of them. They (the birds) were calm about it. Especially Damien.

When we came back Merle was trying to talk a lot and violently head bobbing (while pinning his eyes. It was creepy). Damien just slept. I gave them some cashew nuts and some almonds too.

So...it was a good day.

Kiwi : Indian Ringneck Parrot RIP, taken far too young, Mango : Lovebird, 5 years old 2014, Sprite : Pineapple green cheek, <1 2014
That's great. Our birds love going on walks. I mostly take mango because while she can fly pretty well (clipped wings though), she never does unless something seriously freaks her out.

Sprite can't fly for his life, but he freaks out a lot, so I don't take him often.

But it's always fun to see them in the sun. Mango gets to climb trees, but she enjoys going out of mommas reach so I don't let her much. Plus they don't really like it. Sprite hates being left by himself. He only sits on my shoulder... ONLY!! Everywhere else is TERRIFYING!

I recently took mango to a garage sale where she behaved very well despite chirping a bit. Confused everyone because they were all looking in the trees :D

While she was there she went into my shirt and I just pulled out my collar and looked down  it wasn't until one of the people there looked at me strangely did I realize that was weird to do in public lol. She always climbs down there and I just look at her every now and then to ensure she isn't chewing my bra or whatever. ;) oh well. I'm already weird. Whadda it matter?

Sounds lovely!

How long did you take them out for?
I'm going away to the country with Rosie (oh, and my boyfriend...) this weekend and was planning on trying to get her in her harness and going for a walk outside for the first time (we've been training getting the harness on and off- she happily gets it on her head but not much further...). I wasn't sure how long is too long for her to be outside though! If she seems stressed/unhappy I will obviously take her back inside.

Cheers,

Jessie and Rosie

It was great. I definitely want to take them out again soon.

They were out awhile. I don't know how long exactly, but probably about two hours. I just took Damien to my grandma's house all day yesterday and he was fine. He seemed to enjoy it.

A small travel cage would be fine to keep her in all the time you're there.
Do you show her a treat to get her to put her head through the harness? Make sure to not force it on her, I have tried that myself and it didn't work. Cookie only puts her head through. I haven't got her any further than that, so let me know if you manage to get her to wear it.

I didn't end up getting the harness on her. I wimped out because I felt like with her being in a strange new environment and her disliking the harness it might be a bit much!!! I'll keep going at home first!!!

I show her a seed through the harness, she kind of holds onto it and I stroke the harness over her face. and say good girl! then she will either wiggle out or I'll show her a hand full of seeds which she will eat a few of and THEN wiggle out! She just doesn't sit still long enough for me to get to the next phase! I did get it on her once, but she got really wound up when I was taking it off. So I'm taking it slow!

:)
